  this is the superior ghostbusters movie and i MEAN IT

  everyone is wearing nice wristwatches

  Egon tells Ray that he wasn’t allowed to have toys as a kid. a few minutes pass and Ray says, “You never even had a slinky?” and Egon goes, “We had part of a slinky... but I straightened it.”

  that is GENIUS dialogue for Egon, and a perfect joke.

  Vigo still scares me. even Carpathia is a scary-sounding name. Janosz is still terrifying and even more so re-watching as an adult because he represents creepy men still to this day. Underground subway scene still extremely scary. Baby on ledge getting stolen by Red-eyed Ghost Janosz?! oh my GOD.

  A little detail I never noticed before: When Venkman delivers his classic line “Suck in the guts, guys; we’re the Ghostbusters,” Winston doesn’t suck in his gut like Egon, Ray, and Peter. Because Ernie Hudson did not need to suck anything in; unlike his ghostbusting colleagues, he was in peak physical condition. Kudos to him.

  Wow, this was one of the most bizarre rewatches I've had in quite some time.

  When this first came out I had already practically destroyed my VHS player by playing the first film over and over and over again. So when halfway 1990 the sequel finally reached the cinematic wasteland we call the Netherlands, I was first in line to watch it. And boy did I hate its guts. I'll be honest, I really can't remember what my fifteen year old self disliked about it so much, all I know is that I had never watched it again until now.

  Never understood the hate for Ghostbusters II. This is a movie where the hero calls a baby ugly and smelly and two of the other main characters basically admit to fucking puddles of slime. What’s not to love?!

  Watching this one with my daughter for the first time gave me an insight into why kids love the Ghostbusters so much, even though these films can definitely get scary at times. The Ghostbusters are basically overgrown kids: They generally want to do good and be helpful but they don’t like being told what to do and they tend to wreck stuff even when they’re trying their best. They don’t catch ghosts easily or quietly; there’s always a fair amount of screaming, plenty of property damage, and usually at least a little viscous fluid projection. They’re agents of altruistic chaos in a way that kids — or at least my kids — relate to in a really intense way.

  They really tried to top a giant living Marshmallow man👻 with a living Statue of Liberty🗽. That’s so much less fun & iconic.😒

  This is just okay. It’s just way less funny than the first one and the villain🖼️ just can’t compete with “THERE IS NO DANA, ONLY ZUUL”. It’s just like a less fun version of the first.🤷‍♀️

  Still the cast have good chemistry🤍, the ghosts are cool & I feel like we got a little more screentime from Annie Potts & Ernie Hudson😊. It’s worth a watch if you like the first one.

  It's fascinating to watch sequels struggle with their previous successes and how to exactly incorporate them into franchise progression, but I would say that Ghostbusters II is acceptable in its own right because of its open, even frustrated view of itself. Having its cake and eating it too, Ivan Reitman's comedy sequel conforms the first act of the film to its struggling (and successful) band of characters after the events in Ghostbusters, settling into a rhythm which is abruptly abandoned for grander spooky elements and effects wizardry.
