I spent the entire movie doing lines from HEAT but in a shitty Maurice Chevalier French accent and laughing like an idiot.
Very entertaining police thriller starring Trintignant and Delon. Inspector Roger Borniche (Delon) fails to catch the criminal Emile Buisson (Trintignant) who has escaped from the prison's psychiatric ward, much to the chagrin of his boss. After another murder, Borniche tracks Buisson down again and tries to up an ingenious trap.
Flic Story is an exciting and efficiently made police film. Trintignant is astonishingly good. Delon is, as usual, very cool. Also starring: Claudine 'Thunderball' Auger. I'm just giving it four stars because I had an above-average amount of fun while watching this film. In addition, it's easy to get caught by its story.

It always feels like coming home watching unpopular Delon films. Back in Thailand where I watched one month only Delon films it felt like watching a tv series with him only that the series was out of his filmography.
And now like today when I’m watching some unseen stuff from him it feels like going back into the tv show.
Flic story is another very solid crime film with a like always awesome Delon combined with a great trintignant as the villain. Dry and dark staged film from deray in which I only missed some highlights outside of the kills, finale and performances.
The title feels right as this manhunt film is very proudly workman like. What is most fascinating about it is the contrast not between cop and killer, but between how it needs its stars (Delon, Trintgnant) to fill its sad world while also putting the drudgy of police work above the thrills. It is like Deray wants to drain all the sexiness out of Delon which he can't pull of course, but the tension between elements gives the movie an extra charge.
The first time I saw Flic Story was on television in the early 1980s, when I was still a boy. The film made an impression on me, particularly the scene where the villain (Trintignant) makes a daring jump out of a window onto a roof, followed by the cop (Delon).
Trintignant was charismatic as ever, and Delon hadn't lost his great looks, although he had lost his youthfulness by then, which is probably partly due to his chain smoking habit, which was emphasized in just about every scene of Flic Story.
Although Flic Story is not a Melville class film, it's still a decent and relatively realistic crime flick, with the added dimension of being based on a true story.
Delon, world weary and starting to get a little puffy, tries to catch a notorious gangster played by Jean-Louis Trintignant, deliberately looking like Roy Earle/Humphrey Bogart from High Sierra, after all it’s set in the 40s (and 50s) and based on true events (from the autobiography by detective Roger Borniche and his pursuit of Emile Buisson) but thankfully it's not a nostalgia trip (like the dreaded Borsalino) as Deray & Co. deemphasize the more salacious aspects of catching a killer in favor of the slow build, a real policier’s policier, if you will, with special emphasis on legwork and their mutual obsession and appreciation, of course it doesn’t reach the formal or mythological heights of Meville’s Zen Tales of Love but it’ll do: the finale pays off in a thrilling and carefully crafted suspense set piece and tbh love watching these legends brood, chew scenery, and chase each other around, sue me!
“Flic Story” is, as the title already suggests, a story of a cop's life. In particular, the life of Roger Borniche, ambitious police detective who aspires to become the Chief Inspector. The film is based on an autobiography of Borniche and his detailed description of the manhunt, eventual capture and execution of France’s state enemy, Emile Buisson, one of the most notorious gangsters and serial killers in the history of France. It’s a fairly straight title, and that’s how the film feels: straight, factional and rational. Symmetrically, it opens and concludes with a narration. In between, the facts of the pursuit are laid on the table, and the story unfolds with deliberate pace and palpable sobriety.

Eu nunca fui muito chegada ao cinema do Deray, mas aqui ele faz um filme honesto e interessante, acho que que o carisma de Delon e Trintignant ajuda a manter a narrativa sólida.
Plus: O verdadeiro Borniche estava vivo até meados de 2020 aos 101 anos.
