  Heat by way of Monster energy drink. A cops-and-robbers brotherhood crime drama and cat-and-mouse warring crews procedural thriller that has all the toxic machismo and tactical tech fetish you could ask for with an extra dose of grease stains and muscular pulp in place of the tragic, existential romance of Mann. My man Gerry B was born to play this violent, drunken, newly-divorced gorilla cop "Big Nick" who spends every waking moment stuffing his grubby face with cheap food and Pepto-Bismol in a lonely, hazy, strip club melancholy, or doing some of the most aggro vulgar bad cop trash-talking/dick-measuring you've ever heard ("Food here sucks... [Big sigh] Yeah, we come here for the ass" is so good), or animalistically groaning…

  By the opening scene I knew I was going to love this movie, by the time Gerard Bulter rolls up to his house after cheating on his wife while listening to Everlast's "What It's Like", I knew I would think about it for the rest of my life. A modern classic.

  Redoing the De Niro / Pacino meetup from HEAT but instead of Kate Mantilini it's a shitty teppanyaki joint in Torrance kind of sums up this wonderful piece of junk food that you should look forward to watching on TNT approximately one million times. Gerry Butler staring off into the middle distance like a real fiend for mojitos.

  Hadn't revisited in a number of years and had almost forgotten how this is easily one of the greatest January Trash surprises we've ever gotten. Happy to report that it holds up and we got it right! Gerard Butler was truly a man possessed by the filthy scumbag energy of Big Nick in this; how often can you truly say you vividly remember scenes of dialogue in this type of movie? (This had so many: "Oh fuck, give me the Pepto." "I'd fuck you." "Food here sucks... Yeah, we come here for the ass." "We got family here bro, don't really appreciate you popping off...   Groaned at the 2 hour 20 minute run-time, originally, but I was thoroughly invested, not only with Gerald Butler's wacko, muscle-built intensity, but with the crispness of the location-work, the clarity of the action, and the specific character details that make Den of Thieves a full-size meal and not just some tasty leftovers. Shout out to Cliff Martinez for going all-in on the score, as expected.

  Heat lite. Great performances, phenomenal heist scenes and shootout scenes, and a cool twist that I didn't see coming. Didn't care about any of the family subplot scenes. Could've cut off like 20 minutes if they just got rid of those because it adds nothing to the movie or to Gerard Butler's character. That's the biggest issue, but besides that, it's a pretty fun heist movie.

  London comes up on the screen and some jerk-off orders a couple of drinks for his crew with an annoying level of condescension. donnie turns, beard grown out, and says cheers with a british accent. he then asks about the diamond district, gives a cheeky smile, and says drinks on me and that made me give a little fist pump. that's a surprisingly fantastic way to end a film and now i am very excited for den of thieves 2.

  Absolutely delectable cinematic junk food, if Heat is a 5-star Mexican restaurant then Den of Thieves is a Taco Bell but sometimes you just need a crunchwrap supreme to appease your appetite and that’s all right.

  A lot of fun. I don't really get why they make Gerard Butler drive around for half the movie. I guess it's LA so that's what people do all day. Clever in the way that someone who writes screenplays in their spare time and has a YouTube channel might be. If an action movie has a rapper in it then it's probably going to be worth watching. A lot of tacticool stuff in it that made me want a pistol although I'm a man of peace so probably will never get one.

  It’s hard to gauge whether or not this film rips off or pays homage to its betters like Heat and The Usual Suspects. As with most things in art I think it’s for each person to decide for themselves. 

  One thing I know is that whatever the fuck Gerard Butler is doing here is awesome and we get to see Cheddar Bob and 50 Cent in the first few seconds. 

  I would watch ten of these.
