Synopsis
In a provincial suburb, three neighbours come to terms with the consequences of the new world of social media. Marie, who lives off her husband’s family allowance, is afraid of losing her son’s respect because of a sex tape. Bertrand can’t say no to advertising calls and is fighting to protect his daughter, who is being bullied online. Christine, after losing everything because of her addiction to TV series, wonders why her rating as an Uber driver is not taking off. These three lone fighters are incapable of finding a solution to their problems on their own — until they join forces to declare war on the tech giants.

It's quite literaly a french comedy (with that very distinct style of a french comedic film from the 2010-2020's) that says a lot of things about the digital era without fully understanding it. It is a critique about nothing, with the sole purpose to critique since it does not understand at all what it is dealing with.
-
If you mixed the "How do you do, fellow kids?" and the "OK Boomer" meme, this would be the result.
-
it’s not even that terrible, but it’s peak boomer culture + people were laughing so much it became soooooooooooo annoying
-
A fun French comedy making fun of everything wrong with modern society - from TV addiction to "the cloud" to sex tapes to the do-nothing lifestyle. Easily enjoyable humor, wacky performances. It's a casual watch, something to enjoy on French Netflix one lazy summer evening.
-
Honestly, I'm not really getting all these "Ok Boomer" reviews. Delete History is one of the most purposeful and articulately crafted studio comedies in recent years. The usage of 35mm to thematically juxtapose the digital-centric mindset was a very clever choice, and the comedy frequently hits. Sure, the characters at the start do often time share a lot of "boomer" esque tropes, but once the drama settles and the ball starts rolling, the more outrageous and hilarious the film becomes.
My best pitch would be to describe this as the live-action rendition of the short film Loop Ring Chop Drink. It's nowhere near as good as that short, but for what it achieves in its brisk and effortless direction, Delete History may just be one of my fav flicks from this year's online virtual film festival circuit.

Effacer l'historique / Delete History is a stranger you meet at a bar and hit it off right away. It's drunk at first sight and the pity party doesn't go anywhere or solve anything or help except sometimes just hanging out with someone funny who makes you feel better because he's worse off than you is all you need to have a good time.
Blanche Gardin continues to impress with her comedic range and here she finally has some material to work with. The parade of cameos (Benoît Poelvoorde, Vincent Lacoste, American Horror Story's Denis O'Hare...) isn't new, the lo-fi outsider soundtrack of Daniel Johnston songs feels forced indie and the ending starts to unravel like a used ribbon on a regifted birthday present but none of those things is enough to erase the silly grin I had on my face throughout.
-
Writer-directors Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern are critical of consumerism in DELETE HISTORY, a film that’s both acerbic and amusing.
All mod cons get roundly ridiculed as a trio of adults wronged by the internet plot retribution and there’s plenty of laughs to be had but it’s all rather jaded and derisive and that kinda deflates a lot of the fun. At least for me it did.
Streamed as part of the 2020 Vancouver International Film Festival.

"my pussy is in the cloud" " I want my pussy back"
Extremely boomer, but also very endearing and funny

Heureusement que j'ai vu la dernière heure de Matrix juste après, ça a rattrapé ma soirée là.
Ah ouais rien à dire sur ce film là mais Matrix c'est toujours aussi bien.
Je vous ai déjà parlé de Matrix ?
