  This was honestly really fun. Some cool world building imagining a world where vampirism has taken over, but Capitalism and Politics still reigns supreme.  Ethan Hawke, Sam Neil, Willem Dafoe …. I mean, what else do you need? A final shot of a murdered out Trans Am driving off into the sunset perhaps?  Oh, this has that too. A bloody and fun, high concept vampire flick.

  For all intents and purposes, this is not a very good film as the plot feels like a trip down a road travelled too often.

  However......

  It does give us a new and refreshing take on the vampire genre. It does so by creating a world rich in unbelievable detail. Every nook and cranny of this universe seems explored and thought of. It thus totally submerges its viewers in this intriguing universe.

  Certainly not the greatest action horror to ever touch the screen, but Daybreakers is undeniably fun and I had a blast watching it. Ethan Hawke is great as is Willem Dafoe and the gore and effects are perfect for the film. 

  Its metaphor is definitely very unsubtle, but I do think it’s a clever twist on the genre as a whole. Overall, not incredible but not terrible either. A fun watch for sure if nothing else.

  This may not be a “good” movie but it is still a vampire movie with Ethan Hawke and a not unhot Willem Dafoe and that is enough for me

  I still think this is a pretty underrated vamp movie. With vampires ruling and humans going extinct, there’s a lot of interesting ideas thrown in. The technology and futuristic scifi setting is nice, especially with some of the cars. Overall the first hour or so, has me fully on board and enjoying this stylized world. Plus the actual vampire creature design in this looks awesome, and I wish we got way more of that. After a certain point, things did start to lose steam as well. I don’t really have complaints with the so called “cure” and how that’s discovered, yet can still find it a tad silly and where the story goes just wasn’t as interesting as the build…
