at this point i'm gonna need a new keyboard because of all the blood i have on my hands for liking Molly's Game.
BREAKING NEWS: Nicole Kidman is currently being hospitalized due to carrying the entirety of Being The Ricardos on her back. We hope for a quick recovery.
The lady that sat next to me during this film was yapping in my ear about how excited she was to watch this movie ten minutes before it started. She was blabbing about her fascination with Lucile Ball and her experience with "I Love Lucy" growing up etc. I was only half paying attention to what she was saying because my mom's friend next to me was occupying my attention as I invited her to watch this film with me. The yapping lady wouldn't shut up so I was already uncomfortable. I shit you not, the second the film starts, she PASSES OUT and begins to snore. And proceeds to snore throughout the ENTIRE movie. It wasn't an obnoxiously loud…
I swear I’m gonna fight this motherfucker.
Bitchass sorkin writes an hour and 45 minutes of the best shit he’s written - for screens big or small - in over a decade and then absolutely tanks it all, both politically AND artistically.
Politically - He willfully refuses to read the room of america circa 2021 by, all in the last half hour of the film:
1) Using his characterization of Desi to double down on misguidedly extreme anti-communist sentiment (like, now, today - in THIS late capitalist shitshow of an american economy lmaooooo, fucking clown)
2) Wrapping up Alia Shawkat’s storyline by punching down at younger generations, literally right at the last second of a whole sequence of scenes with her…
I’m pretty sure Aaron Sorkin would be a big supporter of the black list. Ahistorical and wrong headed. A near parody of bad liberalism and Hollywood fetishism of craft devoid of any meaning. Empty craft meets empty politics. A true celebration of nothingness.
Watching movies just because Nicole Kidman is in them is a dark and treacherous slope
There’s a part in the 100th episode of 30 Rock when Jenna is with Dr. Spaceman and she is experiencing a personal crisis. She says, “I mean, on some level do I want to have a baby? Do I want to be a mother? Should I be a mother?” And Dr. Spaceman just goes “Bored!” That’s how I felt about this movie.
In the words of Lucy herself when she gets busted time and time again on the show by Ricky: ‘ewwwwwwwwww.’
Lucille Ball is maybe one of the five funniest humans to ever live and we couldn’t get just ten seconds of that spark somewhere in this movie? I think this may be my only negative review on this site but sue me, I, Matt Gourley, REALLY DO LOVE LUCY.
