there’s something dramaturgically mid 80s woody about this, which is, obviously, crack to me. fantastic film

Louis Malle's greatest crime film, but one of the few where it isn't remembered for the crime, but the simple beauty.

A favourite film I have seen several times since first released in 1980
Funny yet deeply sad. Burt Lancaster gives one of his greatest performances as aging small time gangster Lou who romanticised about the past and who here gets a chance to fulfill his fantasies.
    Great support from Susan Sarandon.

Burt Lancaster llena de vida una ciudad moribunda. Es de esas películas que deben el 95% de su valor a una actuación.

Go read a synopsis of this movie. Whatever the synopsis says, it's not about that... For me, it's a study in relationships, strangers, lovers, con-men, killers, it's all there. The relationships evolve and eventually they fall away. Or they get more defined, more intimate. It's worth a watch.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

At one point Susan Sarandon notices Burt Lancaster's new suit and says "thats not nickel and diming" and Burt Lancaster says "well it calms the nerves" which is a way to talk about a new purchase that should never have been introduced to me

I loved this in ways I wasn’t even expecting. It felt like finding a missing piece in my own family history.

Burt Lancaster as fantasist gangster exuding previously unheard of levels of rizz, obviously this rules. Full review soon...
