Lovesick Charlie Brown hopes – still – to get a valentine from the Little Red-Haired Girl, as does Sally from Linus, Lucy from Schroeder and Peppermint Patty from Charlie Brown.

“Can you cure loneliness?” “For a nickel, I can cure anything.” “Can you cure a deep down, black bottom of the well, no hope, end of the road, what’s the use loneliness?” “For the same nickel?!”
"Yes, ma’am. I’d like to buy a box of candy for a girl who doesn’t know I exist"
It’s Unrequited Love Charlie Brown!
And it’s got the Peanuts gang doing cute and strange things in this V-Day special full of romantic obsessions, outright rejections and lots and lots of doggie kisses.
Charles pines for the little red-haired girl, Patti & Marci pine for Chuck, and Sally continues to pine for her Linus in the relentless pursuit of her sweet babboo.
”I am not your sweet babboo!”
Lucy also pines for Schroder… and even starts a side-hustle of homemade valentines that are so potent there’s a five day waiting period to pick one up.
It all leads to many hearts being broken after the ball… except for Snoopy who seems to be the only one who’s figured out this whole wooing holiday…
”Your eyes are like two supper dishes… be my valentine!”
Kind of a rehash of the three Charlie Brown specials from that other valentines dvd I have. Charlie Brown is stressing about talking to the little red haired girl (like in You're in love, Charlie Brown), everyone’s running around prepping for Valentines Day (like in Be my Valentine, Charlie Brown) and there’s a school dance that takes place at the end (like in It’s your first kiss, Charlie Brown). They even sneak in a callback to A Charlie Brown Christmas with the “don’t you know sarcasm when you hear it?” Basically even at its most repetitive, I still find these characters charming and their antics quite entertaining. How Charlie Brown fit into that mailbox I’ll never know!
Just as I hadn't seen Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown, I hadn't seen (or even heard of) this one at all (thanks Apple TV+ for having all of these). So I decided to watch the "new" one too... which is already 21 years old. Good grief.
First off, it opens with lies! Charlie Brown says he has never once received a valentine. Not true. He got the used one way back in 1975. It's like these kids are perpetually in a time warp or something.
Anyhow, I enjoyed this one too. Not quite as much as the earlier film due to some time wasting with a pencil sharpener and a few other gags. But it was fun to get back…
It is hard to feel too bad for Charlie Brown. While he likes a girl whose name he hasn't bothered to learn, he is blind to how two other girls like him. Wake, up, Charlie Brown!
