Two fathers, one son.
Sorry for the X-Files-esque episode title opening, but this movie means so much to me and was a self appointed staple for someone who lived a similar life growing up. My Sonny was a man named Carmine who showed me the slippery slopes of making a hustle on my stoop and the music industry during my teens and twenties, and DiNero in this movie is the spitting image of my father in both looks and stoic nature with his working class no wasted talent mentality.
Monolithic to me—hits me hard. Carmine meant a lot to me and still does even though he’s faded from my life... but music, Cheshire Cat grins, and slick motherfuckers can’t hold a candle next to the morality and love of my old man.
