Hardcore sentimentality is usually targeted at those who have lived a bit. After all, you need to be able to look back at things from the past with warm feelings to truly be sentimental. But in, My Old Ass, writer/director Megan Park has managed to make a sentimental movie for Gen Z.
I was feeling very mediocre about this film until the big twist. It was moving along with a few funny lines, a few good scenes, and a rom com/coming of age movie feel, then the big twist--and it hit me. The movie suddenly tripled in its depth and meaning--all in one scene. In one scene, the movie took a sharp turn, like a swerve in a motorboat that almost knocks you in the water. Cue the waterworks, end of movie, go hug someone you love.
