"3 ... 2 ... 1"
The detonation of the bomb at Los Alamos made my heart beat faster and palms sweat more than anything in any film ever. The following moments more harrowing than any horror film. The experience of watching Oppenheimer in IMAX was the most immersive and compelling cinematic experience I've ever had.
Christopher Nolan, whose filmography has been hot and cold for me, smashed it out of the park with this one. I feel his best work was done during the mid 2000s but Oppenheimer is undeniably his magnum opus. His skills as a director and screenwriter shone through all throughout, the runtime never dragging.
Cillian Murphy has gotten a lot of plaudits for his role as Oppenheimer for good reason. A frontrunner for the Best Leading Actor category at next year's Oscars. He puts in one of the most deeply emotional performances of all time alongside Emily Blunt who the same can be said about.
The score from Ludwig Göransson generates such powerful emotions. I nearly had tears in my eyes during many scenes. His impact on the film cannot be understated and I expect it to be receive accolades when award season comes around.
Having now seen both Barbie and now Oppenheimer in cinemas I can say that I definitely prefer Oppenheimer. The experience of sitting in a packed out theatre was refreshing and seeing so many people engage in these two films has been amazing. Next plan is to go back to the cinemas to watch Oppenheimer again, it's just that good!
