Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer

A movie about security clearances. A must see for all DCSA employees.

Honestly, not what I thought I was going into. I thought it was going to be good, not great. Every piece of this movie was near perfection, from the editing to the acting to the cinematography and score and the directing. A movie that is largely scientists talking in rooms was cobbled together so masterfully that it had my attention almost breathlessly at times. Oppenheimer is a great subject of a biopic because there are so many things you can draw from- his ego, his mad science, his evolving sense of morality, or even just the world going on around him. Cillian Murphy killed it. Everyone did. Bravo. A+, Best movie of the year so far. Inspiring.

Things I liked:
- Emily Blunt's scene when she proved she was maybe not the smartest person in the room but definitely the cleverest was WOW.
- Josh Hartnett styled like Jan Michael Vincent!
- I really loved when the minor characters got their time to shine, I just wish they could have shined more. Obviously, Conti's Einstein and Branagh's Bohr, but I really have to hand it to both Rami Malek and Alden Ehrenreich for nailing their dialogue. In the blooper reel, please have Alden say, "Would that it t'were, Senator."
- Wow. Did not know that Downey had such a substantial part. And can I say, please give us more of Downey being a bastard in future roles? He owns it. Oscar nominated performance for sure. Let's hope no one plays the Joker for the rest of the year.
- Really cool effects with Oppenheimer's dreams/ illusions.
- Matthew Modine being an absolute chad.

Things I didn't like:
- I loved the score, but sometimes it was a little loud OVER the dialogue. some weird sound editing choices.
- Oppenheimer is now the most hated man in history for me because he had his choice between Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh. No man should have such power.
- Really kind of weird to have such a wonderful cast, but not really give the supporting characters time to cook. Like Oscar-winning Rami Malek- I really thought he was going to go the whole movie with just being a background character- the gave him 1 minute at the end to finally speak.
