"You lied and I died" - Georgie
It's been 27 years since a group of kids called The Losers Club battled the cosmic entity know as Pennywise the Clown and won. 27 years marks the beginning of a new cycle and a call to fulfill the group promise they made and kill IT once and for all.
The Pennywise scenes are every bit as good as the first film. He takes on a bunch of different forms and most of them are hits. Some of the CGI looks great but the rest looks subpar for a film with a budget like this. This is one of those movies where practical FX would have been great in some scenes but we got nothing. We do get lots of monsters running at the screen in attempted jump scares though. Again. Cool Stephen King cameo though. Also Bill Hader and Bill Skarsgård were excellent.
In the first five minutes IT: Chapter II is balls to the wall. Excellent! After that I think pacing becomes a huge issue with spotty moments similar to the intro scene and ALOT of fluff in between to pad the bloated plot. There is no excuse for this film having a two hour and fifty minute runtime. This isn't an epic like Braveheart or a Scorsese film. This is the second half of a horror film that was also too long. Two hours flat would have been more than enough, and even that may be too much.
If you've seen the first film you already have two hours and fifteen minutes invested into the story so what's another two hours and fifty minutes? It's not a bad set of films, and they're way better than the original 1990 TV mini series, but five fucking hours is ridiculous. I'm sorry to keep harping on the runtimes but c'mon...
