This film was a delightful surprise for me. I expected yet another portrayal of the Princess of Wales, but instead, I encountered a fresh and captivating version. Elizabeth Debicki was the 'perfect' Lady Diana in her masterful performance in The Crown, but Kristen Stewart truly shone in this film. Her journey from Twilight to projects like this one has been remarkable, and she has improved tremendously.
Spencer transcends the typical biopic, transforming into a dark fairy tale (almost gothic, especially with the set designs), offering an intimate, engaging, and at times dreamlike depiction of such a troubled and complex character.
]]>Satoshi Kon's first film, Perfect Blue, is celebrated as an animation classic, with its influence enduring through the years. This film unfolds as a complex, multi-layered thriller reminiscent of Hitchcock's style.
It tackles significant themes that resonate deeply. The narrative examines the ideas of doppelgängers and the intricate ties between art and life, as well as the blurred lines between fiction and reality. Additionally, it confronts modern issues like toxic fandom, the influence of mass media, and the detrimental effects of internet culture. Perfect Blue takes viewers on a gripping journey with young Mima, who spirals into turmoil. After her time with the idol group CHAM!, Mima Kirigoe opts to leave her music career behind to chase her dream of acting. This decision leads her to a role in a popular adult crime drama, which alienates her fanbase. One day, she discovers a blog called "Mima's Room," where someone impersonates her and divulges personal details about her life. To make matters worse, a stalker begins sending her menacing messages, questioning her choices. Mima's reality starts to fracture as she grapples with distinguishing between what is real and what is not.
On the surface, the film narrates the tale of a troubled individual struggling to discern reality from illusion. However, on a deeper level, it illustrates the journey of a sweet, innocent girl who is "violated" by the harsh realities of life, forcing her to grow up quickly and lose her naivety. It explores the delicate and challenging world of Asian idols, a realm that, while appearing beautiful and charming, hides dark secrets filled with manipulation, pressure, and sacrifice.
This film is remarkably ahead of its time, addressing themes that remain strikingly relevant today. As a standout piece of 90s animation, it weaves a chilling narrative about celebrity obsession. Mima's struggle after leaving her J-Pop career to pursue acting is not merely a battle for survival or mental health, but also a quest for her identity and autonomy.

]]>Walter Neff, the insurance salesman, opens with a striking confession:
Yes, I killed him. I killed him for money - and a woman - and I didn't get the money and I didn't get the woman. Pretty, isn't it?
As he records his story into a dictaphone, we learn how he became involved with a woman who ultimately led him to conspire in the murder of her husband to collect on a life insurance policy. His scheme unravels when a colleague and friend (Robinson) from the insurance company starts piecing together the truth. This film stands as one of Hollywood's greatest masterpieces and is often hailed as the finest noir of all time. With unforgettable dialogue, memorable characters (especially Robinson and Stanwyck with her ankle bracelet), and a relentless pace, the film's climax only heightens the sense of inevitability surrounding the plot. As is typical of Wilder, whether in noir, comedy, or drama, there’s always a profound exploration of the true deity that matters in America: the God of Money.
This movie literally is a masterpiece.

]]>Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?
The most important thing this movie can teach us is that no human being is a failure even tough there are days in which we feel like trash, we feel not loved, with no aim in life, sometimes we just want to disappear because we think we have nothing to fight and live for.
But the "nothing" doesn't exist when we "have" ourselves and when we are surrounded by people who love us, life can be hard for sure but it's worth it. I'm a non-believer so I guess this is the only "shot of life" we have and it would be such a shame to waste it.
My wish is that this brief "review" can provide some comfort to those of you readers who are facing challenges in their lives. I'm with you in spirit and sending a warm virtual hug your way!
]]>In 2018, I was attending a university focused on languages and literature in Naples. Those were unique years filled with ups and downs; moving from a small town to a big city was a huge leap for someone like me. Transitioning from the little village that had nurtured and "protected" me to a vibrant place like Naples felt like stepping into adulthood, and it was both exciting and frightening.
During that time, I learned a lot, both academically and personally. I met many people, some by chance at the university and others while wandering through the lively streets and alleys of Naples, each brimming with life and stories waiting to be shared.
But there was one person who surprised me more than anyone else. Her name is Federica. We met by chance; she was in the same degree program as I was, and we both found ourselves thrown into a reality that was different from what we were used to. We were two lonely souls in a world that felt unfamiliar. We were two spirits searching for something.
As we started attending classes together, a strong bond began to form between us. Just like the characters in this movie, we spent our time sharing stories, expressing our thoughts, teasing each other, and exchanging glances. After class, we would wander around the city, wanting to spend as much time together as possible. I remember often staying out late with her, watching people pass by while holding our hands and staying silent. But our hearts were talking.
Those moments were unique; they were simple yet filled with life.
You might be wondering how this story between us turned out. There’s so much more to share, but the only thing I want to convey by telling you this story is that love is real. Don’t let past relationships, disappointments, or negative thoughts about yourself hold you back. You are capable of loving and being loved. When you least expect it, love will come your way and sweep you off your feet (and I promise, it’s not a threat, haha).
"We will see each other again?" this is one of the final things we hear in this movie and that's something Federica and I have said to each other at a certain point in our relationship. Just know that whenever I want to see her again, I go to my heart and find her there. We're still together and just as beautiful as we were years ago.

- Serpico (1973)
- The Godfather Part II (1974, and this is his greatest in my opinion)
- Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
Every time he's on screen I'm literally glued to whatever he does, maybe he's my favourite actor of all time.

They were all people who wanted to live more, they loved so much their lives and seeing them in that state was so heartbreaking, I'm pretty sure all of them wanted to experience more and stay a little bit around with their families.
And that's the reason why this movie kinda felt personal to me

]]>This film delves into the theme of justice, inviting us to become jurors in a compelling case. It examines the many dimensions of humanity in the face of a legal dilemma, where only Themis, the goddess of justice, can truly express her perspective. It's remarkable that a nearly century-old filmmaker has captured these complex issues with such clarity and insight.
I truly wish Clint Eastwood could live forever.
I didn't know a single thing about the cast of this movie so my reaction to the whole movie was:
- WOW there's Rachel Sennott
- WOW there's Cory Michael Smith
- WOW there's Lamorne Morris
- WOW there's Nicholas Braun
- WOW there's Willem Dafoe
I didn't plan to be this sad today, fuck

]]>The Green Mile is one of my favourite books of all time and maybe my favourite Stephen King's work too. I still remember the first time I read that book, it took me 3 days to read it all, I was so hooked by the story that I spent even the nights reading that masterpiece.
I've read a lot of books and even if I don't remember all the stories and their details (it would be such a joy to remember everything that I read even after many years) the thing I can't never forget is how those stories made me feel. It is something that you bring inside your heart and your mind, it's something you can't erase.
And this movie really made me feel the same way. Everything is almost perfect.
