The Favourite 2018
Yorgos Lanthimos wants to be Stanley Kubrick so badly that it’s embarrassing.
I think that The Killing of a Sacred Deer is his only great movie. The Favourite looks cool, and it kept me more or less engaged while watching it, but when it ended I was left without interesting thoughts or strong feelings. I didn’t really care about these olde-timey hoes and their drama.

Carnival of Souls 1962
Simple, beautiful, and enigmatic, ‘Carnival of Souls’ is strongly comparable to the films of Alfred Hitchcock, Mario Bava, and David Lynch. It has excellent cinematography, good acting, and a wonderfully eerie organ-based score. And the ending is actually pretty scary!
