If you do a stunt as cool as the pole slide in the mall, you are absolutely allowed to show it three times in a row.

Did not expect everyone’s favorite British bald man and best dog pal to have a story about the dangers and responsibilities of an increasingly automated society or misinformation campaigns. Better than the last MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE.

    1) I'm so glad I watched this *Right* before I voted for the Vulture Stunt Awards

    2) OF COURSE Kenji Tanigaki was the action choreographer on this one.

On Amazon Prime right now and I need you all to watch this shit immediately. Arguably the single best action movie of 2024? Loved loved loved

    Sonic the Hedgehog 3

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I liked that Shadow the Hedgehog had a gun, as is tradition. Only for one scene though which was a bummer. These movies almost always *get there* in regards to being solid family entertainment. I'm not sure they ever rise above that but this one gets the closest to being Great and committing to some actual pathos with Shadow. That was so cool lmao.

Handsomely made! One of those well-oiled machines that feels functionally perfect, exquisitely refined and I can't really come up with a mark against it. Probably Eggers' most accessible feature. I just didn't really get much out of it personally. The material does all the heavy lifting for the audience and there's nothing wrong with that. Eggers is always someone I'll turn up for because he's too talented to ignore. He's just going to be One Of My Guys. Maybe a rewatch will help solidify certain feelings but I'm glad it's going to be a hit.

    The Brutalist

A great movie through and through. While I understand the reason's for brushing up against the film's second half (it is DOUR, to say the least) I think it's pretty clear WHY those specific decisions are made in the narrative. It's not a subtle film, though it certainly leaves much resolution to the viewer's own interpretation. The ending particularly leaves me with a much more mixed perspective on how hopeful or cynical it all is. The american dream is more…

I’d be lying if I said this was in my top 10 of the year but my god it might as well be the second coming of christ compared to the director’s previous film which may secretly have been one of the worst adaptations I’ve ever seen

I always consider not logging this every year I’ve seen it but fuck it, there’s always something new to discover here. A new camera technique. Something specific in a performance. A different focus on the lighting. Stupendous.
