This movie is so much fun.

This is the sort of film one has to accept is a fever dream before going in. Incredible piece of art, and a wonderfully upsetting piece of art at that.

Late night screening at the Hiway Theater. 
An excellent haunted house movie, mixed with the theatrics of a carnival horror ride. Superb sets are the biggest standout. The easy, cozy relationship of the crew is another high point. It’s a strong cast, and you care about what happens to these people (a failing of most modern horror fare). The story really moves. 

Anyway, still love this film after all these years. Seeing it again with a crowd on the big screen only reinforces this.

Best movie of this type since Cube.

Good looking, interesting gothic piece. The climatic action set piece feels disjointed from the rest of the film.

Good-ish, despite how badly miscast Warburg is for the Sully role.

Some very stylish and cool elements, but the tone is perhaps darker than would have better served the film. Final confrontation was Ace.

It is for sure supurb craftsmanship; gorgeous filmmaking that is meticulously constructed. From a filmmaking technical standpoint, it's an incredible achievement. However, I found it so exceedingly bleak and unrelentingly joyless, that I don't think I enjoyed the experience of watching the movie (beyond the mechanical, film fan aspects of examining shot composition, color choices, shadow, etc). 

This is, honestly, why I think I largely have not enjoyed any of Egger's films.

Had been one of my favorite films to introduce for audiences.

Revisiting childhood classic. What a bizarre pairing.

Wow! A perfect tonal Hellboy adaption. It isn’t a big, loud superhero film. It’s a quiet folklore horror film. This isn’t a slight; I adore the Del Toro films, but they are very distinct from the source material (think Kubrick’s The Shining vs King’s novel). But man wow. Very delighted and impressed! Hope we get a bunch more of these small budget, direct adaptations of single Hellboy stories!

Fischer normally means top-tier Hammer, but man this one doesn’t work for me. Gorgeous look enough movie though.
