After a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her teenage daughter, Astrid, accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife.
it’s ironic the long awaited sequel to Beetlejuice has the opposite issue than the original. The story having too much going on when I thought the original had too thin of a story. I think this had 6-7 main plot lines and maybe half of them got enough attention and good conclusion.
Other than that rather big gripe I found everything else to be thoroughly entertaining and great. Tim Burton is known to be one of the most creative filmmakers and he once again showcases it like he’s back in his prime. His direction is equal in brilliance and craziness.
He’s also known for collecting a great team of production, set and art designers that help him put to together his weird creations and they are better here than they are 35 years ago. Technology certainly helps with that but regardless they did a phenomenal job.
Just like the original the cast brings it and I would argue better than the original as they’re more zany and hilarious, in particular the cast from the original. I feel like they encapsulate their characters more here. Specifically Catherine O’Hara and obviously Michael Keaton. They just dropped right back into this world without losing a thing.
I do think this matches up with the original where if you loved that one you’ll probably love this one. It’s really similar for me in terms of enjoyment but I have to put this one above the original.
