I first saw Into the Spider-Verse at an old job several years ago, and didn't have the time to properly process it. The new sequel of course provided the incentive to revisit. I am not crazy about multiverse culture, which is one reason I struggle with Everything Everywhere All At Once, but you can't deny that the level of craft and care put into Into the Spider-Verse is simply balls to the walls impressive. Its moments like these where I wish I had a higher quality TV hooked up or I had seen the film in theaters. I believe a good film should still be able to translate its quality in 540p on a 2000 Panasonic. I promise my TV is better than that, the point is that that I usually care more about substance than style. That being said, this movie is just overflowing with goodies. My personal favorite is Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, channeling his best Humphrey Bogart. That Sunflower song is the definition of an earworm. The voice cast quality is god level powerful. Looking at the line up is like looking at the 2018-19 Golden State Warriors roster.
I've heard amazing things about the sequel. This rewatch has convinced me that I must experience it in theaters. The animation team here is recreating the game. I can't wait to see what they have in store for Across The Spider-Verse.
"How many more spider people are there?" "Save it for Comic-Con."
