Spectacular Spidey Story.
Get the family out to witness the multiverse aspects and the non-stop referential humor. I wanted to pause on those NYC billboards, but the action-packed flick seldom lets up. None of the live action Spider-Man movies have been a total win for me, so I acknowledge this as maybe the most enjoyable since Sam Raimi spun his Spidey tales.
High quality animation and risk-taking verve tingles the senses. Psychedelic final act was crazy, although I do think there might have been a missed opportunity for some Birdman-esque postmodernism. If only our friendly neighborhood web-slinger had ended up crashing into the orchestra pit from Turn off the Dark. Maybe they're saving some surprises for a sequel?
