The Wild Bunch is a collaborative masterpiece. It's some of the very best work of its stars: William Holden, Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine, Ben Johnson and Edmond O'Brien. Even the supporting players turn in bravura performances. The story is compelling and the script is a masterpiece. Every shot, from the opening titles to the closing scene is brilliant and multilayered in its meaning and resonance. It's operatic in scope and mythic in tone. Overall, The Wild Bunch is an elegiac portrait of the ends of an era.
