The Substance is, without a doubt, my favorite Demi Moore film of all time. Blending surreal elements with a deeply unsettling narrative, this film rips into society’s obsession with youth like a chainsaw through butter. The film echoes the likes of David Lynch (elements of Mulholland Drive AND The Elephant Man), Frank Henenlotter’s Basket Case, Alex Winter’s Freaked, Requiem for a Dream, and seemingly even some nods to Kubrick.

Every single one of Quentin’s films is a surreal masterpiece, in one form or another. Each one feels like something I had to have dreamt as opposed to seeing in movie form. This one is no exception. The off the wall detours this already off the wall film takes…just brilliant. He’s one of my favorite directors working right now and I find myself anxiously anticipating each new film starting the moment it’s announced.

Good god, this was horrible. I was so close to walking out of the theater, and I've literally. never done that. This was like if Eli Roth directed a PG-13 Spy Kids movie.
Not even Cate Blanchett or Jamie Lee Curtis could save this one.
