A sun baked love story set on the coast with a non binary protagonist. The story felt like it was set in a dream or a memory, floating in and out in hazy segments. My only complaint is that the dialogue felt sort of generic or at least shallow. I know it’s hard to build character in such a short runtime but I felt let down regardless. I’ve been thinking a lot about 90s queer cinema, how post-AIDs film exploded into a radical, emancipatory project with the likes of Araki, Van Sant, Dunye, etc. These films vibrate out of the damn screen because of the political urgency which propelled them into being.
