I'm always gonna love you, too.”
Musicals are a hit and miss. Some are terribly bad and cringe to watch, some are decent and the there’s some that so great like La La Land! I loved the performances, the spectacular visuals, meanings, themes, songs, opening, ending and more! Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were so great together and I liked how their relationship ended and felt real and not generic or repetitive! They both had great chemistry and I liked how they also fell in love by their imperfections and differences, and again not it being too cheesy! The opening sequence was great, the musical numbers were really good, I loved the use of colours because it told something about the characters and represents them. Red mostly represents Sebastian and Blue mostly represents Mia and you see a mix of colours, until the end it’s separate. Talking about the end, I think it’s truly great and a very strong aspect of the film! The way how it’s shows a life that Mia and Sebastian could’ve had, but doesn’t turn out like that. The simple nod from the two and acknowledgement was great and I felt sad for them. But it’s also great because it feels real and different then typical musical or romantic film endings! The cast was very great and I loved the references to old film and how it was Chazelle’s love letter to Hollywood films! It’s so great and I believe that this deserved Best Picture instead of Moonlight, which is kinda overrated. Overall, it’s a great film and this is easily in my top 10-15 films of all time!
