Con Air

Con Air

Gosh...I've watched a lot of silly films lately. And I've enjoyed them all.

There is something about Con Air that suggests some sort of ironic effort to me. It's like they purposefully took on the challenge of creating a somewhat far-fetched, comedic action film. I hope that was the intention because I can't unsee Nicolas Cage exit that prison bus with a smile on his face as his hair flows in slo-mo. I can't take that seriously, but it made me laugh nonetheless.

Why were there so many explosions? Why did everything explode? What on earth was Steve Buscemi's character? Why did I still thoroughly enjoy this after having so many questions? The answer to all of these is: I don't know. I do have to say, however, that the action scenes and all of the unnecessary explosions were actually done quite well and some of it was rather awesome.

So, I have to appreciate the effort put into the action scenes, as well as some of the background information for some of the criminals. We get to know all about the prisoners and what type of criminal they are - so even the prisoners that weren't focused on too much were still introduced in a way that was quite effective. I'm not entirely sure why we're supposed to feel sorry for Steve Buscemi's character. Are we meant to feel happy that he has managed to escape going back to jail? Isn't this man a mass murderer serial killer? Oh well, he's a gambling, god-loving man now.

Also, the dialogue is completely absurd and silly. I do not understand anyone who can watch this film without laughing.

"You ain't gettin' neyar my dawter. Buckle uwp." - Southern Nicolas Cage.

I really don't have a whole lot to analyse from this one, it's just a fun, hectic, silly action film with a unique concept that is sure to encapsulate you, so give it a go.

(My partner agrees)
"Fair play, Nicolas Cage put on some beef for this film."
