Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I last did one of these Paint Drying entries, but I thought I would do one just to make a quick announcement. Today marks the 2 year anniversary of my Letterboxd account! That’s right, it’s been exactly two years since I, humble cinephile AJ TuckNRoll, took my first steps into a larger world and joined the ever-growing online community of movie lovers that is Letterboxd. I became aware of this site by seeing screenshots of other peoples’ reviews and stuff on Twitter, and the YouTube commentator Schaffrillas Productions made reference to it on his Shrek Forever After video (I recommend checking him out btw, his videos are really entertaining and well-written and he talks about a lot of stuff I like), so eventually I decided to check it out for myself and create my own account on there. And for the most part, I’ve been very glad I made that decision. Being on here has helped me discover a ton of great films and filmmakers, and I’ve also met a lot of great people on here who share my passion for movies. Moreover, this site has really helped me understand the idea of subjectivity and how to respect other peoples’ opinions even when they’re different than mine. I’ll be honest, in the past, I wasn’t always the most understanding person when it came to hearing what other people had to say about things I liked, but since joining Letterboxd I’ve come to understand that it’s okay for people to not always agree on everything and I can respect differing opinions. I’m actually kinda shocked I’ve only been using this site for two years; it sometimes feels a lot longer than that based on how many movies I’ve logged and how big of a part it’s become of my identity as a person who watches and reviews movies religiously. I’m on here a lot of the time even when I’m not logging movies because this site can be pretty addicting to movie buffs, but I also feel that it’s important for me to distance myself from it every now and then just so I don’t let it interfere with or overshadow my personal life and relationships. Overall, while I wouldn’t say Letterboxd is a perfect community (toxic comment sections and the fact that the site has animation listed as a “genre,” to name a few), I’m very happy to be on this site and I hope to continue logging movies and being a proud Letterboxd member for the foreseeable future. I wonder where I’ll be at two years from now?

Additionally, I have two very special rewatches planned as part of my celebration of my account’s 2 year anniversary. They’re very different movies in terms of content and quality, but I’d say they both hold a lot of significance to me for different reasons (here’s a hint: they both reference Casablanca and have a soundtrack featuring John Legend) and I’m excited to revisit both of them.
