When the High Tide bar opens in August this year, it will offer something most bars don’t. Co-owner Flynn Helper will blow glass in the outdoor beer garden while imbibers can watch.

High Tide will have an art gallery in the front, with small bites, wines, nitro coffee, and iced tea, along with 12 local beers on tap. James Reamy is the consulting chef and best known for Meatzilla and the Yeastie boys food truck.

Situated between Little Tokyo, the Arts District, Skid Row, and the Historic Core, High Tide is located in the North Sea District. Helper and co-owner Brandon Bustillos started the project last fall, and finally began converting the space in recent weeks. High Tide has a spacious 2,000-square-foot outdoor beer garden and an equally sized interior. The space used to be the Little Space Gallery, and was originally called Space Camp, until Helper received a cease-and-desist order from NASA.

Local seafood wholesale businesses recently started a neighborhood beautification initiative in the North Sea neighborhood. Back in March, DTLAer noted this effort, which is designed to restore the Industrial District in a self-funded redevelopment program.

High Tide is Helper and Bustillos’ first food venture. As a master glassblower artist for over 20 years, Helper will make all of the glassware, which can be purchased on-site. Helper says, “High Tide is the inevitable evolution to incorporate all the things we love.”
