After spending almost three years operating out of her home, Butter Cake Shoppe owner Sasha Gustafson will open in a cafe and bakery in Virgil Village in late May or early June. The Butter Cake Shoppe will be on the 700 block of Virgil Avenue, and just across the street from popular eateries like Sqirl, and Melody.
The Eastsider interviewed Gustafson about her bakery and cafe, which will take over the space on Virgil near Melrose, which will merge a former party supply store and the now shuttered Security Marshall Training Academy.
Eater also spoke with the Paris-trained pastry chef about taking the next step out of her home, and into an official 1,800 square foot bakery. Prior to this, Gustafson worked for five years at SusieCakes. She was reluctant to move the fledgling company away from cozy Los Feliz, but signed a lease last year, and watched Valley Village shift into one of LA’s hottest neighborhoods.
The Butter Cake Shoppe will have seating for about 12, with coffees and teas to accompany a full-blown pastry display case filled with cupcakes, cakes, and cookies. Gustafson is still operating out of her home at the moment, but only for preorder.
