Chinatown’s Blossom Plaza is scheduled to open a food court in 2018 called Pot Luck. The food hall was developed by BOLO owners/partners (and Pot Luck tenants) Joey Ngoy and Tsz Chan. BOLO currently slings Asian Fried Chicken and ice cream sandwiches at Smorgasburg, and will open as Pot Luck’s first restaurant this spring.
Ngoy and Chan explored throughout the Eastside before signing a lease at Blossom Plaza in 2016. The 6,000 square foot space was too large for their use, and suggested the developer split it up, and create a food hall. The pair curated Pot Luck based on their own food adventures around town. Eater spoke with Ngoy about Blossom Plaza’s plans, and below are the selections for Pot Luck.
Johnny Pacific is a Canoga Park restaurant that also serves in farmers markets throughout LA. They’re known for empanadas, skewers, fries, and salads.
Chichidango describes their specialty as “Japanese mochi meets Hawaiian shaved ice.” Chichi creates homemade mochi on top of milky shaved ice, with real fruit purees. They also serve Dole Whips and Dole Whip floats.
Ground House is a burger stand founded by five LA and OC chefs. Each runs their own independent kitchens, and the group created a traditional burger menu with a heavy Asian influence as Ground House.
Shrimp Daddy launched at Smorgasburg, and many wait up to an hour for their signature Hawaiian garlic butter shrimp in a pineapple boat. Shrimp Daddy’s Pot Luck stand will actually be in a truck.
Young Bud is another vendor from Smorgasburg, and are known for their matcha lattes.
BOLO will serve their take on traditional sweet buns from Hong Kong, by adding in either fried chicken or ice cream fillings.
If Pot Luck’s vendors appear to have a theme, that’s intentional. Chan and Ngoy’s goal is to bring their favorite Asian flavors to LA. “We want to show everyone’s personality,” says Ngoy. “Hopefully this will introduce Asian flavors to people that don’t ever get to try.” Pot Luck opens in 2018.
