Roy Choi Unleashing Kogi BBQ's First-Ever Brick & Mortar in Palms

Roy Choi is launching a full brick & mortar concept called Kogi Taqueria some time in the next few weeks in a Palms strip mall. The news comes after Sushi Central's recent closure after occupying the space for nearly ten years. Choi's team has been tight about details, but here's what's for certain: it will be the first stand-alone space for Kogi BBQ, the massively popular food truck chain that essentially launched a thousand other gourmet trucks between 2008 and 2010.

Sure, detractors might say that Kogi has already had a menu inside of Alibi Room for years, and that menu continues to serve. But Alibi Room has always been a night-time only bar with a selection of Kogi offerings. Here's to hoping that Kogi Taqueria will expand a bit on the concept, with a taqueria-style menu of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and specials that incorporate Korean and Mexican flavors.

This also marks Choi's return to Palms after vacating the original Chego space (which eventually gave way to Phorage). Ever since Choi left Palms, he's been wanting to come back to service the neighborhood. While that won't mean rice bowls and ooey gooey fries, Kogi BBQ fans will certainly have their fair share of Mexican-Korean tacos to compensate.
