Los Angeles is about to lose a prime Chicago hot dog purveyor, unfortunately. The USC-adjacent Budacki’s Hot Dog has been quietly serving Italian beef sandwiches, Polish dogs and Chicago-style Vienna beef options since last year, but come Thursday or Friday, the shop will be no more.
Found right on Figueroa St. next to Exposition Park, Budacki’s managed to gain a local following with college kids and anyone looking for a bit of nostalgia at a cheap price point. It helped, of course, that the shop is a West Coast offshoot of the popular Budacki's Drive In found in Chicago proper.
Ultimately, though, those low cost dogs simply couldn’t overcome the lure of a buy-out, as ownership tells Eater that an offer for the property came down that was simply too good to resist.
Desperate for one last taste of the Windy City by way of a fully loaded Vienna dog? Get to Budacki’s now.
