The universe of the webtoon Kubera has a complex structure consisting of multiple dimensions, three separate realms—the human realm, the sura realm, and the god realm[1]—and many stars and planets, of which several are named in the story. Many planets and suns were destroyed since the universe began.[2][3]

Prior to the Cataclysm, gods and suras had free access between realms, and several sura clans lived on different planets in the human realm. After the Cataclysm, the realms were cut off from one another, and the races were separated according to realm, though inferior suras were placed in the human realm. However, it is still possible for certain individuals to create a gate between realms.

Past universes[]

Other universes have existed and were destroyed before the current universe. Visnu is the only one of the four primeval gods who remembers what happened in the previous universes. His name, like all the other primeval gods' names, is independent of the universe's existence, i.e., he will survive even the end of the universe.[4]

Creation of the universe[]

The one to create each universe and the creatures within it is the primeval god Brahma.

Shiva's role in the creation of the universe is to swallow the destructive counter-force from Brahma's act of creating the Universe. He keeps all this destructive energy within himself and if he is killed, this energy is released and the Universe gets destroyed. [5]

Visnu has jurisdiction over names of power and it was his role to hand them out to the new creatures of the universe as they are born.[4] Later on, he takes onto himself the task of prolonging the existence of the universe.[6]

The primeval god Kali does not contribute to the creation and maintenance of the universe. She can be regarded as the god who occupies the chaos after extinction and before creation. This is strongly connected to why she wishes to destroy the universe.[7]

The three primary realms in the story[]

Human realm[]

The human realm is considered the most favorable of the three realms,[1] and it exists in the 3rd dimension (see below).[2]

God realm[]

The god realm is desolate compared to the human realm, yet habitable. It contains several dimensions, and access to higher dimensions is restricted based on a god's zen level.[8] The higher the zen level of a dimension, the faster time flows. The God of Death, Yama, purposely lives at the 5th-zen level so he can avoid dealing with requests to extend a human's lifespan, because the human typically dies during negotiations due to the slower flow of time there.[9]

The god realm exists in the 6th dimension (see below).[2]

Sura realm[]

The sura realm is a toxic realm with stronger gravity and a red sky. This is not an issue for some of the sura clans, such as the Ananta clan and the Vritra clan. However, the Gandharva clan has suffered since being forcibly moved there from planet Carte, their stronghold,[10] during the Cataclysm.[1]

Known dimensions[]

0th dimension[]

This dimension, also called Nothingness, is a dimension that annihilates souls that have not reached enlightenment, and is also used as a graveyard for dead nastikas.[2]

1st dimension[]

The 1st dimension is Hell,[2] Agni's domain.[11] In the lower levels of Hell, however, the flow of time is faster than in the human realm. Because of this, Agni has actually lived for a longer length of time than the nastikas and most of the other gods.

3rd dimension[]

The human realm exists in this dimension.[2]

4th dimension[]

The sura realm exists in this dimension.[12][13]

6th dimension[]

This dimension is the god realm.[2]

7th dimension[]

This is the Underworld, where Yama can often be found.[2] This is also where gods go to resurrect after they are killed, but there is a significant delay before they can leave again.[8] Since about 1000 years ago, souls of dead humans also wait for their souls to get crossed out in this area.[14][15]

Other places[]

Paradise[]

As of mid-Season 3, not much is known yet about Paradise other than the fact that it is a place where the souls of the dead go if they do not carry any sins.[16][17] This restriction extends even to gods and suras.[18]

The execution zone created by time[]

Not much is known about this place, other than that the survivors from destroyed planets got summoned to it and receive the option to make a deal with Visnu. This opportunity was extended to Asha Rahiro, Mirha Simon, Priscilla Ajes[19] and the incarnation of Brilith Ruin that lived 1000 years ago on Gresvan. It would seem that this space exceeds time.[20]

The place outside of time[]

Again, this place mostly remains a mystery. A being does not physically age in this area, but it does gather experience. Yuta sent Ran Sairofe and Maruna to this place in order to allow them to cross from an obsolete possibility and travel to the existing one, several months back, thus serving as a form of time-travel.[21]

The Hoti Visnu penalty zone[]

This is the place where Asha Rahiro temporarily disappears to for using Visnu magic, although Visnu no longer exists. During the time she spends here, all knowledge of her in the outside world is forgotten. While in this space, she does not age or consume lifespan, but the time spent in the zone is limited.

In N16, Asha managed to take Lorraine, Sagara and a group of Ananta clan suras to this zone with her. Sagara revealed that this zone allowed her to access the records written by time and read all about the past and the possible futures. However, the amount of information present is so extensive that it is impossible for one being to reliably memorize.[20][22][23]

The top[]

The top is not so much a physical space but rather a state of mind which beings who have reached the highest state of enlightenment are able to access. The system was created at the beginning of the universe to remind the enlightened of the virtue of compassion, but instead, gods have been using it to unload their burdens and bring down pleasure.[2] It is a place where gods give up their desires but since it would present a problem for the universe if they all did that, they must drag themselves down continuously. The top is said to exist anywhere and in anyone. It can be accessed in an instant.[24]

The mental world of the Taraka clan[]

It would seem that the Taraka clan suras are linked through a hivemind which constantly issues commands to those who are connected so that they also act as Tarakas. It is painful to overcome these commands.[25] The mental world is interwoven with major nodes (central organisms) which belong to more powerful Taraka suras who are capable of using Taraka eyes to cancel transcendentals.[26] In Korean, the terminology used seems to imply a metaphor to the neural system with a central spinal cord.

The Abyss[]

The Abyss is a system existent in the Sura realm which makes it possible to quickly travel from one location to another in a fashion similar to that of the Water Channels of the Human realm. A strong stench of rotting flesh permeates the bowels of the Abyss.[27] The heart of the Abyss used to be where Kali's Taraka clan was locked away, but it was released in D500.[28]

Notes[]

  • The English-speaking fans of Kubera sometimes refer to the story's universe as the Kuberaverse.
