Early Life

Not much had been revealed of Zesta's early life prior to him becoming an Arch Priest of the Axis Order in devout worship of Aqua.

Journey to Axel Arc

Heading down to the dining hall when Cecily one day led Megumin into the Axis main cathedral at Arcanletia for food, Zesta upon the loli girl agreeing to do anything for him pondered having her call him intimate names before he sought Aqua's guidance. He was subsequently handed a report by Tristan (who was replaced by another follower in the anime) about the order's lagging conversion rates, which Zesta blamed on the "infidels" of the rival Eris Order, before accepting Megumin's offer to show them some of her helpful ideas the next day.

While washing dishes with Cecily at the kitchen some hours later, Zesta who wanted to bathe with Megumin despite Cecily being the one invited reminded his subordinate of her rotation to clean the distribution system for hot springs water that night. When she offered to share him some of her limited Gelatinous Slime powder, however, Zesta agreed to take over her cleaning duties for the night. Yet after Cecily merrily ran off to the baths, the pontiff had trouble finding where the cleaning soda was, until he spied a sack of powder lying around on the kitchen floor.

Following a night of toil where he dragged the powder to the hot springs distribution system before pouring the whole sack in, Zesta followed Megumin into town the ensuing day, where she taught him various ideas for striking conversations with passersby and opening an opportunity to convert them. The perverted pontiff's lecherous nature, however, spoiled Megumin's first idea of pretending to drop apples and engage helpful passersby because he sexually harassed the beautiful woman trying to help him. When Megumin next pretended to ask for help from a tough man who turned out to be a policeman, Zesta instead of playing his part as her pursuing attacker simply hid himself in the shadows and let Megumin face the music. He still managed through food to persuade the incensed Megumin into continuing to help, and while eating noticed Chomusuke at Megumin's side as an unnatural existence. Then upon hearing Megumin reveal her goal of seeking a busty mage who is capable of Explosion Magic, Zesta told her about Wiz who fit the description.

Setting out again afterwards, Zesta shocked Megumin with the crazy act of replacing the rolls of toilet paper in public toilets with conversion forms for the Axis Order, something which got them chased down by the police. Accordingly begging Megumin to demonstrate her idea of having a little girl pretend to fall down for attracting passersby on an approaching young girl who turned out to be Yunyun, he joined Megumin in enjoying the ensuing vituperation, before explaining to Yunyun his relationship with Megumin in a misleading fashion. But upon leading the Crimson Demons back to the cathedral, Zesta was surprised to find a female knight leading some police for arresting him. As Cecily and other Axis followers blurted out Zesta's various perverted deeds and prompted Megumin to cooperate with the police, he between making harassing statements heard that anomalies had been occurring all over the hot springs managed by the Axis Order, so the police were now arresting him for conspiring treason with the Devil King's Army based on a divination recently sent by Soketto. Despite Zesta angrily denying the allegations through citing the Axis Order's mantra about killing the Devil King and attempting resistance by sexually harassing the female knight, he was in the end escorted away.

Spending the better part of the next day at the police station, where he heard reports of the other Axis followers causing widespread unrest throughout the city supposedly in a demonstration of his innocence, Zesta found himself interrogated by Sena. He proceeded to calmly answer the royal prosecutor's questions in a manner that not only had his innocence proven by her lie-detecting bell, but traumatised Sena into tears. Set free from the police station at dusk, Zesta scathingly rebuked the female knight who arrested him, before noticing Cecily and the Crimson Demons who appeared to have been waiting for his release.

As Zesta noticed the stench of Demons in the city on their way back, the group was confronted by a hooded Arnes, whose scandalous attire got him all turned on, until she revealed her demonic identity when shooting a Fireball at him. Adopting a serious demeanour as he Reflected the Fireball, the Arch Priest terrified the Demon he accused of causing the hot springs' anomalies with blasts of Sacred Highness Exorcism, before he and Cecily led other Axis followers into fanatically hunting after the baffled Arnes. Subsequent to them chasing off the Demon, Zesta offered to pay for Megumin's trip to Axel as gratitude for her conversion ideas that he planned to enhance into the city's specialty, in addition to inviting her for another night's stay, followed by them both ganging up to tease Yunyun who wanted to follow Megumin, until he finally got zapped by Yunyun's Lightning. The next day as Megumin and Yunyun prepared boarding the caravan to Axel, Zesta cast a Blessing on the former, but refused to do so on the latter due to her zapping him and sparking his ordeal by delivering Soketto's divination.

Several days later, Zesta declared hearing a divine telepathy from Aqua herself, in which the goddess asked her follower to borrow her money. Upon identifying the message's source to be Axel, he called for somebody to head over there for investigating, a task Cecily ended up volunteering for.

Early Spring Arc

After leaving Arcanletia to play around for a few days, Zesta returned to discover that during his absence, Hans the Devil King's General had attempted to bankrupt the Axis Order through ruining the hot springs with his Deadly Poison Slime body, only to be thwarted when a blue-haired Arch Priest calling herself "Aqua" unleashed an inhumanly powerful Purification magic that not only purified the Slime and his contamination, but also made the main spring gush out holy water. Overjoyed at having confirmation for the advent of his goddess, whom the other ignorant followers had already banished for ruining the hot springs in addition to confiscating her reward money from defeating Hans, Zesta ordered the high echelons of the order to secretly keep an eye on Aqua while covertly returning her the money.

Mid Summer Arc

When Cecily now the manager of the order's Axel branch sent a letter about joining in a bandit band formed by Megumin where all the other members were little loli-girls, Zesta also became one of the followers who wanted to join in as well, to the point he had contemplated resigning his position as the pontiff.
