Early Life[]
Not much had been written about Arue's early life prior to her enrolling at school, though it was noted that by the time she did, she was known as the best-developed girl in the Crimson Demon Village, and was constantly seen wearing an eyepatch for effect.
School Days Arc[]
Arue already displayed a heightened flair for theatrics even among her Crimson Demons peers at their commencement ceremony in Red Prison,[1] and maintained top grades just behind Megumin and Yunyun that regularly qualified her for being rewarded with skill up potions, and her focus on coolness which her clan values above all constantly earned her full marks on questions from her teacher. Her busty body however attracted the jealousy of Megumin who saw her as a rival, especially during physical education lessons where her breasts were emphasised, though they were willing to exercise as a team, except when Megumin turned down so that the loner Yunyun could team up with Arue.[2]
At school after classes ended on a hot summer day, Arue and her classmates were discussing topics like wishing upon a star and curses, when Pucchin came telling that classes would be postponed for an hour tomorrow because the villagers planned to make it snow overnight for lowering the temperature. Trudging to school through the snow on the following morning, Arue and Yunyun joined Funifura and Dodonko in pelting Megumin with snowballs, before enjoying the shaved ice sold to them by Nerimaki and indeed attending classes late as a result. During the ensuing summer vacation which came early, Arue aspiring to be a writer began working on a story manuscript for some publisher's novelist award. Through bribing Komekko with food, she secured the help of Megumin to spell-check her writing, though upon Megumin giving stark criticism of her work, Arue uncharacteristically denied the critique hysterically, before spending sleepless days rewriting the story.[3]
Finally handing in her manuscript to the publisher three days before the end of summer vacation, two days later Arue was reminded that she still had to complete her summer homework when visited by Megumin, Funifura, and Dodonko as well as Nerimaki who were in the same situation. The five of them next headed for the chief's home, where it turned out Yunyun had finished her homework at the start of the vacation. Guiltily accepting Yunyun's offer of letting them copy her homework, Arue commented how an ensuing quarrel between Megumin and Yunyun looked like one between a couple. Upon completing the copying by nightfall, she joined the others to Demon's Hill for fulfilling Yunyun's wish of watching stars with friends, though they ended up only looking at the fireworks under a cloudy sky courtesy of the villagers battling against the Great Spirit of the Summer. The girls soon witnessed somebody summoning a shooting star, so in accordance with Dodonko's belief, Arue made a wish for herself to become a writer.[4]
After school restarted, Arue like her classmates became fascinated with Megumin's black cat, who whenever brought to school readily accepted her caressing, and proposed naming her "Norisuke" before the class settled for "Kuro".[2]

As the contests between Megumin and Yunyun turned into a daily sight, Arue sometimes took on the role of the judge. During their first field training in the forest, prior to which Arue sniggered at her teammate Megumin, from whom Yunyun got "cuckolded away" by Funifura and Dodonko, she exhibited another stretch of coolness by wielding the oversized mock weapons, and mercilessly finished off the monsters frozen stiff by Pucchin. Arue accordingly discovered a Demon nearby, and fled in terror alongside Megumin only to be caught up by it, though Yunyun stepped in to cover for them before Pucchin struck that servant of the Dark God down. The horrifying experience however did not dampen Arue's mood for making fun of Megumin nor her focus on coolness in class.[5]
(In the anime, the class was attacked by a Gargoyle during the field training, at which Arue calmly fled alongside Megumin, Yunyun's team, and Nerimaki who were all panicked. Despite the subsequent rescue by a Bukkororii stuck in the pit he had dug, his stalker antics disgusted Arue so much she called for him to start over as a fetus, before walking off with the other girls to abandon him. She later played along with the demented proclamations of Pucchin and the other villagers when they battled the Gargoyles only to destroy the village in the process)[6]
Following some more weeks of school (where in the anime she and other classmates buried Bukkororii in books after he Teleported into the library they were studying at and began listing how he stalked Soketto)[7], during a lesson for crafting magic items Arue aided Megumin with brewing a potion for curing diseases by catching the fleeing Mandrakes and cutting up the onion carried by a Duxion.[8]
At some point during the period, Arue accompanied Megumin to observe how the friendless Yunyun spent her day off, and after witnessing many heartbreakingly lonely scenes, took the initiative to invite her as well as Funifura and Dodonko for a game with them.[9]
Journey to Axel Arc[]

When Yunyun invited some classmates to her home for Megumin's farewell party, Arue was one of those who attended, and gifted Megumin her eyepatch. She also joined Funifura and Dodonko at the village's teleportation station the following day to see Megumin off on her way to Arcanletia[10] (whereas in the anime, Arue only bid farewell to Megumin at the station, and gifted her the eyepatch there)[7].
Irregular of Axel Arc[]
At some point during the period, Arue treated a starving Komekko to grilled sweet potatoes, and read for the little girl a letter sent by Megumin from Axel, before helping Komekko who possessed a surprisingly great potential write the reply letter.[11]
Mid Spring Arc[]
After graduation, Arue stayed at home working towards her dream of becoming a writer. Utilising the people and places around her as model, she started writing a fictional tale called Heroic Tales of the Crimson Demons, and mailed the manuscript of the first chapter to Yunyun for review in the same envelope as Hiropon's letter so that they could save on postage.[12] Evacuated to the Demon's Hill alongside other villagers during Sylvia's razing of the village, Arue made a theatrical quote about the village burning,[13] and later used the scene as inspiration to write the second chapter of her tale, only to be infuriated when Kazuma tore up the manuscript.[14]

(In the anime, Arue partnered with Funifura and Dodonko to welcome Megumin and Yunyun's return to the village as they were taking Kazuma's party on a tour of Red Prison. When Sylvia's razing of the village forced her to evacuate with the others, she pointed Kazuma towards the ancient ruins where the clues for countering the Mage-Killer might be found, before letting Wiz drain her magical powers so she could empower Megumin and Yunyun' final attack)[15]
Cursed Relic Arc[]
When Yunyun returned to the village less than a month since Sylvia's attack to ask around about a small metallic slate, Arue was one of the few who were genuinely interested, and subsequent to Kazuma's party also arriving, heard of how they were all Level Drained of their levels and skills. Intrigued by the relic the party was gathering replacement parts for, she offered to join in their journey, before assisting with inquiring the villagers about the slate's whereabouts.[16] After the slate was revealed to be in the possession of Komekko, Arue might assist with generating imitation Explosions in hopes of impressing the little girl into relinquishing the replacement part.[17]
When a giant Wallavy marched onto Axel, Arue also participated in its defence, and upon Megumin discovering that Wallavy could be melted by intense heat, became one of the mages who blasted fire magic at it.[18]
At some point during the period, Arue told Kazuma of her plans to write a guidebook about Axel, which the Guild gave her permission to do. She proceeded to visit various sites around the city, starting with Kazuma's mansion which she found old and worn. Next heading to the Guild Hall and interviewing Luna, she determined the place to be unremarkable. Kazuma thus took her to look around the city's businesses, with Wiz's Shop being one of them, but a summarisation of the shop's merchandise from Wiz was more than enough to convince Arue of how unreliable they were. She was anyhow gifted by Vanir a floating lamp said to explode upon usage one out of five times, and out of caution placed it inside an empty bag, which was subsequently thrown by Kazuma as a makeshift explosive projectile for stopping a purse snatcher who bumped into her. Managing to express in literary verses her disappointment at all that she had seen, Arue pointed out how Axel's lack of historical sites made it hard to attract tourists. The chuunibyou antics and water tricks subsequently displayed by Megumin and Aqua, though, gave her the idea of writing her guidebook to make it appealing to adventurers instead.[19]
Following many adventures and battles alongside Kazuma, Arue joined him in defending Axel from the attack of a supergiant Wallavy, in which she started off by cooperating with Yunyun and Funifura alongside other mages to slow the oversized Slime's advance down through magic while Kazuma and the others fought it. Then after the whole team rejoined, Arue proceeded to battle the mutated Wallavy and hold it in place, before helping to sweep away Wallavy's multiple smaller clones so that Kazuma and Aqua could go destroy its core.[20] Several days later, when all the adventurers who had fought in the battle were drinking at the Guild in celebration, Arue enjoyed the delicious warabi mochi Aqua had cut out from Wallavy.[21]
