- 16 February: Alfred Burke, who played Professor Armando Dippet, died.
- 15 July: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which concluded the Harry Potter films, is released nearly a decade after the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released.
- The video game adaptation of the film is released thereafter.
- 13 October: Sheila Allen, who played a Ministry witch, died.[2][3]
- 31 October: The original scheduled date for the general public opening of Pottermore, the Harry Potter companion website that had opened to beta users that summer, which was later changed following an announcement that the site would be opened to the public at an indefinite date.
