The 1877 Quidditch World Cup, dubbed the Tournament that Nobody Remembers, was one of the more notorious of controversies surrounding the Quidditch World Cup.

History[]

A tournament was arranged for 1877, with a venue chosen, tickets sold, and merchandise produced, but nobody, player or supporter, could remember having attended any matches.[1]

However, English Beater Lucas Bargeworthy was missing half his teeth, Canadian Seeker Angelus Peel's knees were on backwards, and half the Argentinian team were found tied up in the basement of a bar in Cardiff.[1]

Theories for the lack of memory pertaining to the event range from mass Memory Charms cast by the Goblin Liberation Front, at that time very active and attracting anarchist wizards, to the breakout of Cerebrumous Spattergroit, a more virulent sub-strain of regular Spattergroit which caused memory loss and confusion. Whatever the reason, the tournament was re-staged the following year, resulting in a slight anomaly in the "every four years since 1473" sequence.[1]
