Up-n-Atom Burger is a fast-food restaurant chain featured in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. The player can buy shares of the company in the Lcn-exchange.com website.
Description[]
Its taglines are "Once It Pings, Eat Like Kings" and "Food from when we were morally superior". The latter refers to the restaurant's "atomic age" theme, as seen in their television advertisements. The atomic age (the late 1940s to mid 1960s) in the United States was characterized by strict social mores and patriotism. The company has 2 mascots named "Ray" and "May" who appear to be yellow blobs. Their taglines can be seen on the delivery trucks around Los Santos. The chain is based on In-N-Out Burger. Its main stock competitor is Burger Shot, while its other competitors stand as Cluckin Bell, Pizza This and Taco Bomb.
Despite the advertising, trucks, and other promotional material relating to the chain, the player can't eat at this restaurant.
History[]
The first Up-n-Atom was established near the Procopio Truck Stop, Blaine County in 1947 by founders Ray and May, by the name of "Ray-N-May's Up-n-Atom Diner"[1], with the tagline, "The Taste of America's Future". Sometime before 2013, the diner was successful enough to open two more modernised joints in Los Santos under the new name of "Up-n-Atom Burger": one joint on the corner of Vinewood Boulevard opposite Bishop's WTF?!, and a joint inside the Del Perro Plaza.
Influence[]
Up-n-Atom is evidently based on the hamburger chain In-N-Out Burger, which was founded in California and has locations primarily in the Western United States. The name is a pun on the phrase "up and at 'em". The "Once It Pings, Eat Like Kings" tagline refers to Burger King, which is already primarily parodied as Burger Shot. The yellow curve up over the Up-n-Atom name is reminiscent of both the In-N-Out logo and McDonald's iconic "golden arches".
Menu[]
Up-n-Atom has a menu made mainly of unhealthy, greasy foods. A television commercial broadcast on the Weazel network claims that Up-n-Atom "does not succumb to trendy health fads", and "still serves all your weekly salt, saturated fat, and sugar needs". Their menu includes, but is likely not limited to:

Trivia[]
- In the TV commercials, some footage from L.A. Noire, in black and white mode, is used for the stock footage from 1950.
- The description of "served with a side of religious fundamentalism" is a reference to In-N-Out placing Bible verses on the bottom of cups and burger wrappers.
- This could also be referring to Chick-fil-A, a chicken fast food chain which was the subject of controversy after it was revealed that it had donated money to religious fundamentalist and anti-LGBT groups.
- When nearing the base of the rocket statue at the Procopio location, a Geiger counter can be heard with the clicks increasing as the player moves closer.
- The menu and commercial's exaggerated and unhealthy advertised products may be a nod to the Heart Attack Grill, a Las Vegas food attraction infamous for its high-caloric fatty foods and milkshakes. The restaurant itself has faced backlash from many health specialists, and the deaths of many people from heart attacks are attributed to the restaurant, which is its business moniker.
- The Del Perro Plaza location of Up-N-Atom uses a glass-windowed front, with the texture of a basic fast food place, and also some posters advertising foods, such as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, ice cream cones, and an undescriptive kid's meal. These were not included in the menu list due to it probably being a reused texture.
- The Up-N-Atom Burger on Vinewood Boulevard is a direct copy of the real-life In-N-Out Burger on Sunset Boulevard, down to the architecture and placement on a road corner.
