I tell you, cops, they're everywhere these days. I can't walk down the street without someone asking for my ID, some men in blue telling me 'Who are you?' I'm Dean Frantz, I don't need to show you my ID! I mean, cops everywhere, but is there ever a cop when you need one? NO!

The Anywhere City Police Department (ACPD) is a provisional name for the police department serving the municipality of Anywhere City, USA, that appears in Grand Theft Auto 2. It is ambiguously referred to as the U.S. Police in-game.

At the time of release, they are represented as a police force of the near future. The ACPD feature prominently throughout Grand Theft Auto 2 as minor antagonists, as well as appearing briefly in the live action movie.

ACPD officers chase Claude Speed as shown in the GTA 2 movie.

Description[]

Police Stations[]

There are several police stations in each of the three districts in Anywhere City, normally with unlocked Cop Cars parked there. As usual in GTA games, the player will respawn at the closest police station when busted. Police stations can be found in the following areas:

In each district a Police Headquarters can be found. The largest appears to be the Headquarters in the Downtown District which features a car impound lot with security that only spawns during the mission Dimentia To Go!. The Residential District has a large brick building which does not function as a police station in regular gameplay, but is prominently featured in the mission Distraction Action!, with several parked police vehicles in it during the mission and under tight security (spawning numerous policemen who are actually coded as a gang). In the Industrial District, the police HQ does not appear during any mission, and is depicted as a large complex with a parking lot, without any police protection.

Equipment[]

Uniforms[]

ACPD officers wear dark blue uniforms with lighter blue tortoiseshell shaped helmets. The standard sidearm for an officer is a pistol; although an ElectroBaton stungun was present in the beta. Members of the SWAT teams wear similar uniforms albeit with body armor, white helmets and are slightly more accurate with the pistol. In the Game Boy Color port of GTA2, they all wear blue-and-white uniforms with red headgear, and there is no clear difference in appearance between regular patrol officers and SWAT teams.

Vehicles[]

The only vehicles seen used by the police are the Cop Car and SWAT Van. It is not known if the Special Agents are part of the CIA, FBI or another government agency, or indeed a part of the ACPD.

Cop Cars will always contain two officers armed with pistols who will both exit the vehicle and attack Claude if provoked. The SWAT Van contains up to six officers armed with pistols.

Standard roadblock procedure is to block the road with cop cars and place barriers between them. Pistol-armed officers would stand behind the barriers and open fire if necessary. The size of a roadblock varies depending on the width of a road.

In GTA 2: The Movie, the police car is depicted as a 1991-1992 Chevrolet Caprice, which bears the pre-2002 New York Police Department livery.
