Fred Wilkes is a character in Season 5 of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. He is portrayed by John Amos.
Character[]
Fred is the overprotective father of Lisa Wilkes, stepfather of Will Smith, and husband of Viola "Vy" Smith.
Story[]
Fred is introduced in Same Game, Next Season as Lisa's overproctective father, Fred intially dislikes Will and claimed he would never liked because to him no one is good enough for his daughter. Eventually, Fred takes a liking to Will and becomes overbearing and clingy towards him, leading Will to "break up" with him using his bond with his unchle Phil as the main reason. Later on in The Wedding Show (Psyche!) Fred develps a mild rivaly with Phillip over who is going to pay for the wedding, however when Will and Lisa sneak out and and try to elope on their own, both Phillip and Fred became relieved and happy over the money they'll be saving by not paying for their wedding, how this is short lived as Will and Lisa don't end up getting married. In For Whom the Wedding Bells Toll, a rivalry flared up between Fred and Vy. Hoping to work out their differences, the two set them up to a restaurant to know each other and get along. Later that night, however, Will finds that the plan had completely backfired when he catches the duo in bed together, apparently having gotten along too well, much to his shock and horror. At their wedding, Will and Lisa decide to call it off as they realize they're not ready. In their place, Vy and Fred get married instead.
