Sector 0 is a location in the Final Fantasy VII series. It is the central sector of Midgar, and is the space on which Shinra Building, headquarters of the Shinra Electric Power Company stands, and where Mako Reactor 0 is located. Below, it is the main base for Deepground.
History[]
Before Final Fantasy VII[]
Mako Reactor 0 was first erected around 1969, and first began operating in around 1971, the second year of Midgar's construction. When the plate was constructed around 1976, the Shinra Building above the plate begun construction, and was finished in 1976, when Shinra relocated there headquarters there.[1]
In April 0001, during chapter 4 of Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, Zack Fair traveled to the Shinra Building via the highways of Sector 0 to stop Genesis Rhapsodos' attack on the building. On the way, Angeal Hewley carried him toward the building.
Original continuity[]
In December 0007, during "Storming the Shinra Building" in Final Fantasy VII, Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, and Barret Wallace visited Sector 0 to infiltrate the Shinra Building and rescue Aerith Gainsborough. Later, in 0008 during "Mako Cannon Rampage", Cloud's party traveled through Sector 0 on their way to the Sister Ray.
In 0010, during Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-, Vincent Valentine entered Sector 0 to defeat the Tsviets and stop the coming of the Omega Weapon during the Battle of Midgar.
Remake continuity[]
In December 0007, during "The Belly of the Beast" in Final Fantasy VII Remake, Cloud, Tifa, and Barret visited Sector 0 on their way to rescue Aerith from the Shinra Building. They took a path down outside Sector 0 looking for a way inside, but found security around the building especially tight. Eventually, the group opted to jump onto a truck and use it to enter the building via the parking lot.
Geography[]
Sector 0 is located at the very center of Midgar. It is the location of the main pillar holding up Midgar, the Corkscrew Tunnel trains that provide a path up and down the plate, and Mako Reactor 0 located in the middle beneath the plate, providing power to the city.[1] Sitting atop the plate is the Shinra Building that dominates the sector. Underground, Deepground is located around the sector.
Topside, Sector 0 is contained within a wall. Around and within it are a network of highway bridges that lead to the Shinra Building. Within are immense bright floodlights are found around the sector atop the plate, highlighting the company's wasteful use of electricity,[2] along with immense pipes seemingly connected to Mako Reactor 0, metal walkways, and offshoot tower-like structures around the main building.
Shinra Bldg.[]
The Shinra Building is both the headquarters of the Shinra Electric Power Company and the seat of the government for the city. The building is surrounded by a large wall around its perimeter, with an empty moat from the wall towards the circular plate on which the building stands. The building towers over the rest of the city, as its tallest building by far.
Midgar Expressway[]
The Midgar Expressway is a network of long winding highway bridges that lead from the Shinra Building all the way to the edge of the city.
Gameplay[]
Final Fantasy VII[]
Little of Sector 0 is seen in Final Fantasy VII, and what is seen is present mostly in the Shinra Bldg. first seen in "Storming the Shinra Building", and later the Winding Tunnel path toward the building as seen in "Mako Cannon Rampage". The second time, it is possible to reenter the Shinra Building to obtain items that could not be obtained on the first visit, such as Cait Sith's final weapon HP Shout.
Final Fantasy VII Remake[]
A piece of Sector 0 is seen during "The Belly of the Beast", when Cloud's party has a chance to view Sector 0 when heading down the railings to reach the Shinra Building. No enemies are fought here, as at the end of the path, a cutscene takes them to the parking lot below the building.
Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII[]
Sector 0 is visited briefly in chapter 4 during Genesis' second attack on the Shinra Building. In this, Zack traverses Sector 0 via the highways.
Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII[]
