The Hardy-Daytona is a motorcycle in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Remake that Cloud Strife rides during the party's escape from the Shinra Building. This scene leads into a minigame where Cloud must ride the motorcycle alongside a pick-up truck carrying the other party members and use his sword to attack pursuing Shinra troops. In the original game, this minigame can later be replayed at the Gold Saucer's Wonder Square, where GP and a Speed Source are rewarded for a high enough score. In the remake, the motorcycle minigame is played in the final chapter, "Destiny's Crossroads", and can be skipped in New Game Plus.
Profile[]
Unlike later motorcycles in the Final Fantasy VII series, the Hardy-Daytona is virtually identical to real-world designs, with visible wheel-guards, headlight, and exhaust pipes. The model is known as the Hardy-Daytona, referring to motorcycle manufacturing company Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, where notable racing events, such as the Daytona 200 motorcycle race and the Daytona 500 NASCAR stock car race, are held every year. The engine design is copied from the first generation of the Yamaha V-Max.
Dummied dialogue in the original game suggests that the bike may have once been intended to be interacted with, and refers to the bike as "Hardy Datona". The bike can be seen on the Final Fantasy VII International Bonus Disc content, and has the caption "hrady-DAYTONA" in English text.
The Hardy-Daytona is equipped with Shinra's first-V-type DOHC engine, born of technical feedback from aircraft engine laboratories.[1] The engine was developed by the Arms Department. Its output is said to be so powerful, an average person would struggle handling the bike.[2]
In the 2020 remake, the Hardy-Daytona has been slightly redesigned to resemble the Fenrir; this is largely due to the addition of the bike's third wheel (located on the rear well).
