Winnie the Pooh: A Valentine for You is a 1999 animated musical comedy-drama Valentine's Day television special. It was originally broadcast on February 13, 1999. It was the last Winnie the Pooh production to feature Paul Winchell as the voice of Tigger, before his retirement and death from natural causes on June 24, 2005, six years after this television special was made.
When Pooh and his friends discover that Christopher Robin has fallen in love with a girl, they believe that he won't have time for them anymore. After Owl tells them about the "love bug", the gang decides to find one to cure Christopher Robin of his "lovesickness". But Pooh decides to let the bug go so Christopher Robin can be happy with who he has now. The next morning, however, Pooh and his friends receive Valentine cards from Christopher Robin and they learn there's room in the heart for friends both old and new.
It was released on January 11, 2000 on VHS, then re-released on January 9, 2001 on VHS, along with Rolie Polie Olie: Happy Hearts Day, and re-released on January 8, 2002 on VHS along with A Valentine for Eeyore.
It is unusual that the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood not know what a girl is as they all collectively know Kanga (ironically, the only female member of the group), who is noticeably absent along with Roo. This was most likely done on purpose for the sake of the special's story.
Though, it is a likely possibility that the Hundred Acre Wood residents never encountered a human girl before, as Christopher Robin is the only human character they've ever encountered.
This live-action opening sequence of the special features includes the original 1926 plush versions of the gang from the original Winnie the Pooh books, instead of the Disney versions.
Since this marks Paul Winchell's final performance as Tigger's speaking voice in a Winnie the Pooh project, this marks the final time Jim Cummings only provided the singing voice of Tigger before taking over the role entirely beginning with The Tigger Movie, also marking the final time Paul Winchell worked with Jim Cummings. Though Winchell did voice Tigger one more time for a Disney theme park attraction in 2000.
This special features the 1995 variant of the 1985 Rainbow Castle Walt Disney Television/Buena Vista International logo combo with the smaller Buena Vista text, and is one of the final Disney television productions to use this logo before switching over to the 1998 Blue Castle Walt Disney Television/Buena Vista International logo (which looks similar to the 1990 Walt Disney Pictures logo).
This is the last Winnie the Pooh television special and the last appearance of Gopher in a Winnie the Pooh television project entirely.
This is also the last hand-drawn animated Winnie the Pooh project to be released for television.
