Los Chachalacos are a band of skeleton musicians featured in the 2017 Disney/Pixar animated feature film Coco.
Background[]
Los Chachalacos are comprised of a band of skeletons who perform together as a group consisting of male and female members respectively. Each band member uses their own instruments whenever they perform on stage together as a group. The instruments they can use can consist of a tuba, trombone, clarinets, a trumpet, and drums. They even felt excited whenever they are ranked number one whenever they perform like when they showed a number one card to a security guard outside of Ernesto's mansion.
Appearances[]
Coco[]
Los Chachalacos are first seen performing on stage auditioning to play the song "Remember Me" in front of the audience as one of the performers on the Emcee's stage to see who will be ranked number one just before they leave; however, Miguel and Héctor perform on stage singing the musical number "Un Poco Loco" together, only for Imelda and the rest of the Rivera family to attempt to reunite Miguel with his family. They later appear again after María Félix and El Santo enter Ernesto's mansion where Miguel sees them in a distance. As Miguel discusses with them that he needs a favor to help him enter Ernesto's mansion without getting noticed by the security guard, Miguel gets into one of the band member's tuba to avoid getting caught by the guard outside the mansion. As they approach the guard, one of the band members holds a card saying that they are number one to show to the guard that they are ranked number one. Seeing this, he allows the members of Los Chachalacos to enter the mansion where they enter via tram. One of the band members blows Miguel out of his tuba just as one of them tells Miguel to enjoy the party at Ernesto's mansion. They do not appear again afterwards, even after Ernesto was deemed a fraud and Héctor was revealed to be the real musician who wrote the songs.
Disney Parks[]
Mickey's PhilharMagic[]
In the post-2021 update, three members of the Los Chachalacos band are seen performing on stage with other musicians with Miguel and Héctor performing on stage just as they and the other members throw their hats while Donald tries to retrieve the Sorcerer Hat, only for Pepita to grab it while Donald hangs onto her tail.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown of how each band member died individually before they ended up in the Land of the Dead. It is likely that they were an unnamed band when they were alive before each of them died individually, forming into a group called "Los Chachalacos".
- In the original English version of the film, one of the band members of Los Chachalacos holding a card written as "Campeón Numero Uno" which they show to the security guard outside of Ernesto's mansion. However, although the text was written in Spanish, this was altered simply as "#1" in international versions of the film, presumably to get over the language barrier.
