"It's Tough to Be a Bug!" is the theme song for the attraction of the same name at Disney Animal Kingdom and formerly at Disney California Adventure. It is sung during the end of the attraction by Flik, an ensemble of honeybees, dung beetles (the Dung Brothers), and various sorts of insects.
The song's lyrics describe how it is important for the world to have insects that help take care of the world. An instrumental version of the song is heard when guests exit the theater to deposit their Bugs' Eyes 3D glasses into the bins outside the theater.
Lyrics[]
Flik and Honeybees: We're pollinators
We're pollinators
Female Bee: If you like vegetables...
Male Bee: ...fresh fruit and flowers...
Bees: Give thanks to us bugs for our marvelous powers
Dung Beetle (Dung Brother #1): If it weren't for the fact that we'd like the taste, you'd be out there wallowing in shoulder high waste...
Dung Beetle (Dung Brother #2): Shoulder high waste...
Dragonflies: And if all bugs were wiped off the face of the planet, there'd soon be no humans around here to man it
Insects: The best thing about us - you can't live without us
Still, it's tough... to... be... a... bug!
Trivia[]
- Throughout the song, a group of male honeybees sings the line "We're pollinators". In real-life, only female honeybees pollinate.
- When the "It's Tough to Be a Bug!" song was included in albums containing songs from the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World, it contains voices different from the ones heard in the actual attraction itself (specifically lines based on the bees' verse and the Dung Brothers' verse), which is possibly an early recording of the song before being finalized, albeit using the same lyrics from the final version of the attraction. Additionally, the instrument heard at the start is a kazoo instead of a piano key.
