Inside Out is an American media franchise created by Pete Docter and produced by Pixar. It explores the inner workings of the human mind, where five personified emotions (Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger) control the thoughts and actions of a young girl named Riley Andersen. The franchise consists of two feature films, a short film, an upcoming series based on dreams, several video and mobile games, and two theme park attractions.

Inside Out (2015)[]

The first film, Inside Out, was released on June 19, 2015 to critical acclaim and commercial success. It follows Riley as she moves to San Francisco with her parents and struggles to adjust to her new life, while her emotions try to help her cope with the changes. The film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, among other accolades. It also became the seventh highest-grossing animated film of all time, with a worldwide gross of over $857 million.
Inside Out 2 (2024)[]

The second film, Inside Out 2, was released on June 14, 2024. It follows Riley as a teenager, who develops new emotions as she grows older. The film introduces Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, as a new emotion that disrupts Riley's emotional balance. It also features new voice actors for Fear and Disgust, who are voiced by Tony Hale and Liza Lapira, respectively, replacing Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling, who declined to return for the sequel due to pay disputes.
Short film[]
Riley's First Date (2015)[]

The short film, Riley's First Date?, was released in 2015 as a bonus feature on the Blu-ray release of Inside Out. It depicts Riley's parents and their emotions, who suspect that she is going out on a date with a boy named Jordan. The short film was directed and written by Josh Cooley.

An upcoming series based on Dream Productions in Riley's mind is set to release on Disney+ on December 11, 2024.

The franchise includes several video games, such as Inside Out: Thought Bubbles, a puzzle game released in 2015 for mobile devices and web browsers; Disney Infinity: 3.0 Edition, a toys-to-life game released in 2015 for various platforms; Disney Crossy Road, an endless runner game released in 2016 for mobile devices; Disney Emoji Blitz, a match-three game released in 2016 for mobile devices; Disney Magic Kingdoms, a simulation game released in 2016 for mobile devices; LEGO The Incredibles, an action-adventure game released in 2018 for various platforms; and Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, a role-playing game released in 2018 for mobile devices. It also has two theme park attractions, one located at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, California, and the other onboard the Disney Wish cruise ship. The first one is Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, a spinner ride that opened in 2019, featuring the emotions and their memory orbs. The second one is Inside Out: Joyful Sweets, a dessert shop that opened in 2022, featuring Joy and other characters from the franchise.
