The Alley Music House

The music keeps going at the former Pete’s Dueling Piano bar location in Addison as this live music venue and cocktail spot slips in. Mixologist Alaria Waddle, who was previously at Roots Southern Table, is behind the drinks menu. On it are a mix of classic cocktails, including the French 75 and and amaretto sour, as well as new creations like the Apple Fog (infused apple vodka with orange bitters) and Minty (a green tea vodka with Meyer lemon and agave).

Inside a strip mall in Preston Hollow might not be where one expects to find the new hot spot, but this place above the recently opened Chido Tacos is doing some interesting stuff. This tequila bar is all about spirits that are free of additives and offers fancier versions of the tacos that can be had downstairs.

The dark and sexy little bar hidden on the far side of Goodwins is quite the find. Come in through the restaurant (a lot of people are finding out about it when they go to the restroom and discover it) or through the quiet entrance on Greenville Ave. The only overlap with the Goodwins bar menu is the Goodwin martini.

Stoneleigh P

Everything old is new again when the Stoneleigh P moves from it’s original location to a new spot on Lemmon Ave. Same good times, same wild nights, same strong pours. New location.

Lawnie’s

This Henderson Ave. spot is so relaxed that everything comes in a plastic cup, even its take on the espresso martini, and they openly welcome outside food cos they’re not serving any. Your dog may accompany you, and it’s a great place for watching sports ball. Cocktails, beers, and hard seltzers are abundant.

Local Public Eatery Henderson

Is this our new favorite restaurant? No. Is it a great place to go for a drink, some bar bites, and socializing? Yes. It may also be the only place in town where one can slam back red wine in a porron, just like the Spanish do (or gently pour it in your mouth if you’re wearing a white t-shirt).

Lucky Dog Saloon

Pop in to watch a game, play tabletop shuffleboard, and grab a beer. Don’t miss ordering the wagyu barbecue brisket or a gourmet hot dog, and the selection of whiskeys and bourbons here is top notch.

While the Stoneleigh P is at its new home, this sports bar opened in its place. It was opened by Austin’s Bob Woody, who has been involved with a notable list of bars down there. Perhaps the most unique item to try is the Man-Mimosas, which take the standard mimosa and serve it in a 32-oz. beer mug.

Nuri Steakhouse

Nuri is a great place to dine, but the cordoned off bar area also makes it a great place to just stop by for a drink. Grab one of the swiveling red chairs and order from its creative cocktail menu.

Kanvas Sports + Social

This sports bar slipped into the spot in Deep Ellum previously occupied by Harlowe MXM. Owned by Kevin Kelley, who alos has Kitchen + Kocktails in Downtown, it features loads of TVs over the up- and downstairs. The cocktail menu includes an array of old fashioneds with flavors like peach, blackberry, and a chocolate tequila version of the drink. For summer, we are into the Popscicle, which is a hefty pour of champagne with a frozen pop inside.

Good Side Pizza Pub

It’s a pizza place, it’s a charming brick-walled pub: stop, you’re both right. In cozy weather season, very little sounds better than heading out for a cocktail, glass of heavy red wine, or a beer with a pie.

This colorful, graffiti-filled sports bar in Deep Ellum isn’t serving the average cocktail. Nothing about it average, really. The graffiti is from local legend Eder Martinez while the food and drinks are crafted by the team behind well-respected neighborhood spots Ruins and Armoury. And it’s a sports bar so there are loads of TVs to catch whatever game. Try the Black Rainbow, a frozen espresso martini, or the Season of the Witch, a draft cocktail strawberry mojito. It also offers notable classic cocktails, including whiskey sours, Manhattans, and gimlets.

ˈLəkē Gin Bar

While this bar (pronounced Lucky) serves its own gin and offers classes on making gin, it is also a bar. The menu is focused on its ambassadorship for gin, with gin cocktails to the front, back, and center, with a side helping of education. Go for the Press Your Luck (gin, habanero, and blood orange), Rosewater sour (gin, rosewater, and egg whites), or a classic Salty Dog (gin and grapefruit juice).

Casablanca

After closing through the summer for renovations, Casablanca is back and double the size. The cool patio, called the Tipsy Garden, is perfect in this weather, and the cocktail program is still strong. Karaoke rooms in the back are always a huge draw.
