As the pandemic has ushered in a new era of virtual restaurants and ghost kitchens, Guy Fieri has begun opening delivery-only outlets across the country. Fieri, the host of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, has opened a trio of locations in suburban Chicago. Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Kitchen serves messy fried foods like cheesesteak egg rolls, burgers, and bacon-wrapped jalapeños stuffed with andouille and pimento cream.
Entrees include delights like chicken parmesan with pepperoni and a Cajun chicken Alfredo. While Chicago isn’t ready for the treasures of Flavortown, customers in Lombard, Orland Park, and Wheeling have been bestowed with such luxuries. This is a collaboration with Virtual Dining Concepts, a company that has restaurants backed by luminaries such as Mario Lopez (Saved by the Bell) and singer Mariah Carey. Though unaffiliated, last year rapper Wiz Khalifa debuted HotBox by Wiz in Chicago using a similar formula.
Fieri has frequented featured Chicago on his TV show. He’s stopped by at places like Smoque, BopNGrill, and Big N Little’s. Since the pandemic has hurt the restaurant industry, Fieri has shown off a charitable side raising money for the workers behind the restaurants that he’s highlighted. Also impressive is his friendship with Smash Mouth’s Steve Harwell — the two share an uncanny resemblance. Hey man — last year Fieri was even in Chicago to attend the 2020 NBA All-Star Game.
The chain now has restaurants in 31 states, plus Washington, D.C.
