Tawanna Gaines is a former Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 22 from 2001 to 2019. Gaines resigned on October 4, 2019, after she was charged with federal wire fraud.[1]
Gaines passed away on November 12, 2022.[2]
Biography
Gaines' professional experience included working as coordinator of the National Student Exchange Program at the University of Maryland College Park.

Elections for the Maryland House of Delegates took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Incumbents Tawanna P. Gaines, Anne Healey and Alonzo T. Washington defeated Rushern Baker IV in the Democratic primary. Lynn White was unopposed in the Republican primary. Gaines, Healey and Washington defeated White in the general election for three seats.[4][5][6]
2010
Gaines successfully won re-election in the general election on November 2, 2010. She won the first of three seats. No Republicans ran in the district.[7]

On November 7, 2006, Tawanna Gaines ran for District 22 of the Maryland House of Delegates, winning the first of three seats, beating Anne Healey and Justin Ross.[8]
