Ballotpedia biographical submission form
The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:
“ | What is your political philosophy?
I believe that every person should have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential and that the government is responsible for supporting a certain baseline in a community to make this possible. I believe healthcare is a right in a just society, that we will be better off as a community if we support every child from birth and that our failure to protect and support our seniors is reprehensible. I decided to run for office because, having grown up in San Diego's foster care system, I have seen firsthand what happens when quality, early support is provided and also through the lives of my foster brothers and sisters what happens when it is missing. As a mostly private sector attorney and former public health professional, I feel strongly that there is a role for both the public and private sectors and that our government sometimes fails to recognize the importance of both areas. I am running because every child has a right to a strong start and we need strong regional leadership to elevate this priority. It is the only way to make long-term improvements in our community. Is there anything you would like to add? Our campaign is about improving the lives of San Diegans, not merely about finding a political office. I am the only candidate with a background in public health and evaluating the success of programs - one third of the County's budget is health and social services. I am also the only candidate with a professional background in land use and over 80% of the County is unincorporated land that it has land use control over. Our region has major issues to address and this job does not require a career politician to understand how to work towards meaningful solutions. We need people who have done the work - and I have experience at the federal, state and local level - and we need people who understand the importance of both public and private sector and I am the only candidate with a substantial private sector background.[2] |
