|Originally from San Antonio, my wife Jess and I have been raising our family in Del Valle since 2014. I am a former public school special education teacher, community advocate, and data scientist specializing in public policy and state agency data in Texas. My work has helped non-profits, progressive organizations, and elected officials address complex policy challenges locally and across Texas. I've earned degrees from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin, George Mason University, and Abilene Christian University. Most recently, I led work around the intersection of public policy and data science as the Senior Project Manager for Data Initiatives at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. In Austin, I've actively served our community throughout the pandemic and winter storm response as Vice-President of the Del Valle Community Coalition and Vice-Chair of the City's Early Childhood Council. I've helped expand the number of Pre-K seats in Central Texas. I've advocated for the expansion of Pre-K funding in Del Valle ISD and high-quality childcare facilities in Southeast Austin. In the wake of winter storm Uri, I helped provide my neighbors in the Eastern Crescent of Travis County with over $100K worth of food, water, hot meals, and sanitary supplies. I've consistently offered my data skills to support the work of progressive organizations like Equality Texas, Austin Latino Coalition, and elected officials who work to serve our communities.
- ON PUBLIC EDUCATION, our campaign will advocate for: 1) Equitable and adequate school funding that can ensure Texas students thrive; 2) Ensuring districts with greater poverty have access to resources they need; 3) Prioritizing funding for public schools. Not state agencies or privatization efforts; 4) Ensuring educators earn livable wages and grow in their profession; 5) Increasing funding for subsidized early childhood initiatives and child care in Texas.
- ON IMPROVING INFRASTRUCTURE, our campaign will advocate for: 1) Requiring weatherization of all Texas energy production and ban exemption loopholes; 2) Funding critical water quality improvement projects so everyone has sufficient access to clean water in District 51; 3) Increasing the number of clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies in District 51; 4) Expanding access to healthy and affordable foods in District 51.
- ON CIVIL RIGHTS, our campaign will advocate for: 1) Increasing voter participation rates across Texas by making it easier to vote; 2) Expanding protections and rights for all LGBTQIA+ Texans. 3) Ban vigilante systems of justice like SB8's abortion ban and increase access to reproductive health care.
